came across this album just released this week, for lovers of the vintage jamaican sounds, it centres around theophilus"easy snappin'" beckford, either as a session man or a producer, it's on Kingston sounds label...

great anthology, the godfather of ska, very apt for this ska/reggae, 2 discs, disc 1 is the early Jamaican boogie, some rare rare ska, and his more well known tracks, disc 2 is from 69-89, when he was still recording with real 3rd wave ska bands, it's just out this week, really good purchase...

I'm going to check that one out. Laurel Aitken was awesome and nobody's ever done a good anthology of his music.

I've been rediscovering U-Brown a brilliant deejay from the first era of Jamaican deejays. U-Brown was only 15 when he released his first single in Jamaica in the early 70s. He moved to England and worked with Bunny Lee for awhile but pretty much disappeared from the scene. Now at age 52 U-Brown is back and the studio and sounds better than he did in his glory days. I hope he finds an audience this time around. Next to the master U-Roy, nobody toasts better than U-Brown.

Hi there,

Don't know if this is still available but many years ago I had a vinyl version of a dub album by Dennis Bovell called 'Strictly Dubwise' and it was wonderful. Thing is, I either lost it at a party or it got swiped, anyway, I no longer have it so I'm gonna do a quick search and see if it ever got released on cd.

I liked it because it was a bit rough at the edges but had some great moments in it too.

Gordon. (It had a bright yellow cover I think).

Did a quick search and there it was. Amazon have it as an import. Yours for $31.99. I think I'll start saving up to get that one.. ha, ha..

Cheers Satch, that is the very one. Good stuff. I have it playing on my tinny speakers at work which is not the thing at all but it does bring back good memories of my lost album.

Strictly Dubwise is Bovell's 1978 debut album and I haven't seen it in issue for several years. But nearly every good album comes back into issue if you willing to long enough. For that reason I would never pay a collector's premium price for any album because the collector's market is a ripoff with artifically inflated prices.

My reggae music source is Ernie B.'s the largest online reggae music wholesaler in the USA and if he doesn't have the title, then nobody has it. He's a great resource for rare and hard to find reggae albums.
