at the end of the day, the bands you label as mediocre are the bands that sell the records. whether you like them or not, a lot of independantly-minded people do. so they must be doing something right. at the same time i can see why you think of them as mediocre. im kind of mixed with my opinions on them. some i love, some i hate.

As are Green Day and My Chemical Romance.

As must McFly and Avril Lavigne.

As the editor of the NME himself said, they write about bands for the 17 year old kid with a crappy education who's wasting his life and working full-time in a job he hates. I am none of those things, ergo I really couldn't give a toss about bands who write songs about being thrown out of clubs and blowing their wage packets on smack and slappers.

em..listening to it for about 5 minutes now.....has it started yet? i don't know, it seems like they want to play something but are not getting arround to it......it's wonderful if you have a sleeping disorder, in fact, i think i might put it on tonight, i should be fast alseep by the middle of the first song.....
and i'd say that you can pretty much take any song from takk and it would be a whole lot better than this.....

i've done what you've asked, now be a good sport and search for don't mess with texas.....

whoa hold it. im 18, soon to be going to university in london. im no uneducated fool. yes, im well aware these bands target teen audiences, and some of the bands i really like because i can relate and escape with the lyrics. plus their generally catchy tunes i can sing and tap along to. a good band doesnt need to be methodical, meticulous and complex in everything they do and talk about.

Most of Takk... bored me to tears. As does most of Sigur Ros' music. And you really shouldn't complain about the song not starting when EitS and Sigur Ros are part of an entire genre that's almost built around long instrumental songs.

And Xiu Xiu are far more talented then most of the bands the NME writes about. Sure, a lot of the songs are just throwaway experimental shit, but when Xiu Xiu gets it right you can't deny that they're really fucking good.

P.S. I hope you're in the middle of a really nice dream around the time the songs hits 7:20.

I don't think anyone here said that.

the point im making here is this. just because a band lacks great musicianship, or deep, meaningful lyrics- it doesnt mean they are mere fodder for teen girls and boys. im open to many types of music, NME bands being on of them, surely good music is anything you can hum along to? and dont deny you've havent had the kooks or motorettes in your head lately!

i'm sure they're far to elitist to listen to such tripe....

I'm not overly excited by great musicianship and technical jiggery pokery either. I just hate something utterly mundane and average, so incredibly lacking in an original thought that they can't even come up with a name that invokes ANY kind of emotional response, being lauded as the entity that "saves the music business".

And I haven't had The Kooks stuck in my head recently, no. Thankfully.
