You can't compare Metallica and Iron Maiden...two totally different types of metal...Iron Maiden is like early heavy/power metal while Metallica is thrash

I'll pick Metallica since I like thrash metal a bit better but they are both great bands.

Lars openly cites the NWOBHM as the reason he got into music as opposed to playing tennis. Therefore that would make Maiden the more influential of the 2 groups because Metallica wouldn't have existed in their original form without the influence of Maiden.

Both put on great live stage shows but are totally different. Maiden means you dig out your denim shirt covered in patches and throw the horns all night having a party. Metallica means dressing in a black t-shirt, getting ****faced and bruised to hell in the moshpit.

Diamond Head were a much bigger influence on Metallica than Maiden. Lars appreciated the imagery and professionalism of Maiden, it's fan club, merchandise etc. Of course both were part of NWOBHM and some great bands came out of that era.

I perfer Iron Maiden, I only liked Metallica back when they were real hard rockers, not when they started making songs like "Nothing Else Matters" although I liked that song, but they were just slowing down for me although now a days people like that kinda of stuff.

Iron Maiden's debut has ballads too. Does that make them less heavy?

I like jackhammer's take on the subject.
Nothing Else Matters was one of the best ballads in history, in my opinion. I'm also extremely biased, since it's my favorite band.
Alot of people hated them after that song. One thing I've always loved about the band, is they don't care who likes them or who doesn't, they aren't afraid to change direction and experiment with their music.

Iron Maiden has stayed true to their Metal roots .
And Bruce is just 10x a better vocalist !
