When did the definition change? It's been emotive hardcore for the past 22 years.]\

MCR, no. They're a blend of post-emo and post-hardcore.

Nope emo isn't emotive hardcore anymore. I don't know why it changed, but it just did. Fall Out Boy can be considered emo because that emoish sound you are refering to isn't really in the emo genre that much anymore. Now it is mostly accompenied by repeditive guitar chords and whiny vocals. Also You could consider MCR to be screamo could you not?

Fall Out Boy doesn't have whiny emoish sound and MCR are far from screamo

Genres don't change. They have a concrete base of criteria.

Fall Out Boy are Pop/Punk. Probably not even that.

Pop would be more accurate.

Nothing is concrete. Everything changes.

The meaning didn't change at all. A bunch of d*ckheads just didn't know what it meant so they created a scene and called it emo. The real emo music remains the same, as there are still real emo bands recording.
