Iron Monkey - Fink Dial
Eyehategod - Dixie Whiskey
Electric Wizard - I, the Witchfinder

and Crowbar or White Zombie could do the trick.

Download Paper Cuts by Nirvana and tell me that's not sludge.

I hit page 81 by accident and saw that there was a sludge thread that nobody has responded to since 2005! I`m too lazy to check if there is a more recent thread dedicated to this metal genre so lets discuss.

We could discuss the ultimate sludge band the Melvins, but the genre has a whole load of other great bands as well, also there are well known bands such as Mastodon and Baroness for example who incorporate sludge into their progressive sound.

Can't go wrong with Down, Crowbar, Eyehategod, Goatsnake, or Spirit Caravan when it comes to sludge

No mension of Dinousaur Jr, they've got some pretty sludgey stuff, especially around the Bug/YLOAM era. Sludgefeast, Don't, The Lung and Raisans all have sludgey elements.

Also check out some Love Battery.

Acid Bath probably the best metal band that nobodys ever heard off.

They were something very different with their brand of sludge metal combined with a myriad of eclectic styles, the vocal style of Dax Riggs was something special as well. Sadly they only put out two albums and "When the Kite String Pops" is an essential album to have.

"Odd Fellows Rest" by Crowbar is a must have sludge metal album.

Sludge kind of falls into two categories really, those that are sludge bands such as the Melvins and Crowbar etc and those that are influenced by it such as grunge and alternative acts.

I would say the first sludge metal album to be Melvins "Gluey Porch Treatments"
