Jester Race is very good (though I don't have Black Ash Inheritance) but Whoracle holds a very special place in my heart.

Prog isn't trendy. In Flames are kinda gay. Listen to Ephel Duath instead.

InvokeTheDarkAge 08-31-2006 04:21 PM

my favorite melodeath album is Heartwork by Carcass

i have only heard in flames new stuff and it is utter ****, but ill check this out cuz i have heard good things about old In Flames

LesPaulBret 03-12-2007 10:55 PM

MURDER JUNKIE 03-13-2007 07:29 AM

Clayman without hesitation

Everything else is weak in comparison

You serious? How can one like Clayman and not like Colony? Colony is more original, better guitar tone, songwriting, etc etc.

And I like The Jester Race the most. CLASSIC Melodic Death Metal. Genre defining.

The Unfan 03-13-2007 02:10 PM

Lunar Strain is the only remotely decent In Flames album.

Yeah, Colony is great. I like Whoracle the most, that album just never wears out.

Inuzuka Skysword 03-18-2007 11:22 AM

Here is my order of the albums. Also keep in mind I still haven't heard their second album Subbterrainian or something like that.

Whoracle (Come on this is definately the best.)
The Jester Race (It is better than Colony.)
Colony (They upped the speed on their music and still stayed original.)
Come Clarity (It is more original than Clayman. Clayman was just a copy of Colony.)
Clayman (At this point we are at the sucky albums.)
Lunar Strain (Yeah it gets much worse.)
Soundtrack of Your Escape (OMG yuck!)
Reroute to Remain (This album will go to music hell.)

I remember when I bought Reroute to Remain. I listened to it all the way through, took it back to the store for my money. They wouldn't do that, so they offered a trade of a different CD of less or equal value, so I picked up Of One Blood by Shadows Fall. Best trade in my life.

The only album I like by Shadows Fall is Of One Blood, IMO from there whey went downhill.

Yeah, Gorod slays! :thumb:

Muzak 03-18-2007 05:37 PM

I don't listen to In Flames anymore but my favorite album is Whoracle.

lol @ Come Clarity and Clayman being above Lunar Strain. You've got a nice sense of humor.

I'm convinced you don't really listen to them.

Jester Race > Colony > Lunar Strain > Subterranean > Whoracle (too polished sounding for me) > The Tokyo Showdown (yes, I am putting a live album on here) > the rest.

Neurotripsicks 03-19-2007 01:29 PM

Yeah, The Jester Race is awesome as well. I like Whoracle just a bit more, but TJR is definitely in 2nd.

The Unfan 03-19-2007 03:33 PM

Lunar Strain > anything else they ever did because they never managed to capture that raw energy ever again.

Muzak 03-19-2007 03:40 PM

Colony was bland, the only good song on it was the bonus Japanese track 'Man Made God'

I didn't like Lunar Strain that much. Come Clarity mixed the old sound with the new so at least they did something there. Clayman was really just Colony with differant songs, but none the less it still sounded good. And I hate all Live Albums.

Nathan Explosion 04-06-2007 05:22 PM

As far as old In Flames goes, i would say Clayman, as far as the newer more sing songy stuff I would say Come Clarity.

Clayman =/= old In Flames

IM me at algoregrind and I'll send you some old In Flames

I guess I should have said Clayman was in the middle. I was thinking that anything before Reroute to Remain was old In Flames, as in their old style of music.

I have the discography, but thanks for the offer!

berv 05-30-2007 12:37 PM

In Flames

Anyone like them? I just got into them. I seem l to like a few songs by them.

Voice_of_the_Soul12,13,01 05-30-2007 01:36 PM

I only have STYE, and am told their older stuff is much better. Seeing as I just only like STYE, I expect great things from their old stuff.... just need to get the money to buy it.

berv 05-30-2007 03:22 PM

word stye is good

Inuzuka Skysword 05-30-2007 04:39 PM

Everything after Colony sux. Come Calrity shows they are improving though.

Nathan Explosion 05-30-2007 11:05 PM

I wouldn't say any of their stuff sucks, but the earlier stuff has less melodic vocals and more awesome guitar harmonies and the newer stuff has more keyboards and catchy sing songy chorus's. I can't get Come Clarity out of my head, its a good song!

The Unfan 05-31-2007 03:00 PM

Fairly boring Swede-scene garbage. I really blame At The Gates for sucking hard enough to start a trend, but damn every last band that was lame enough to join along.

almauro 06-01-2007 08:25 PM

Regarding the Swedes, there's Opeth, Arch Enemy...then everyone else, including IF.

The Unfan 06-02-2007 10:05 AM

When I refer to swede-scene garbage I specifically mean the whole melodeath thing. At The Gates were mediocre at best and when you have a bunch of bands (Dark Tranquility, In Flames and Soilwork at the forefront) playing watered down At The Gates riffs it really only gets worse. The fact that it somehow caught on is pretty insulting to people with ears.

Bane of your existence 06-02-2007 10:47 AM

Entombed, Raised Fist, Autopsy Torment, Sentanced, Carnage, and Nihlist are the only Swedish bands worth mentioning.

Yeah and they are good. By far the best Mellodeath band IMO. COB is okay too, but some of their stuff can get really old.

agreed. the jester race is one of the greatest metal cd's ever.

Bane of your existence 06-03-2007 01:15 AM

Sh*t, and the typo.

berv 06-04-2007 01:37 PM

they rock. i wanna see them live :usehead:

dimski 12-26-2007 02:33 AM

Actually I think that is one of the greatest band I've ever heard...
The ''soundtrack to your escape'' is amazing...
Great songs like ''quiet place'', ''evil in the closet'', ''borders and shading'' and many others...
Also great albums ''come clarity'', ''clayman'', ''reroute to remain''... all are really good...
