We i'm sure he has made some little contributions to most songs, but thats something band members are suposed to do... Hetfield made the most contribution.

Hammett however did make a good deal of contribution on The Black Album, which is a underrated Metallica album, so i'll give him that at least.

The black album is weak compared to Kill Em All, Ride The Lightening and Master Of Puppets.

Enter Sandman, Sad But True, Nothing Else Matters and The Unforgiven are good songs. It is a cool album and it does stand out on it's own, it's just poor compared to Tallica's previous work IMO.
It's perhaps underrated by fans, but in general,I thought it was held to be Metallica's most mainstream album.
