The birth of independent labels

Post Punk & New Wave
Not to mention the huge rise in popularity of metal , which was all but dead around 77/78

All the best aspects of the 80s happened away from the mainstream.

Only the independent label thing counts.

Besides, why do you act like that is a good thing when people constanly bitch about it here?

ya we all know those great bands came out of the 80s but that's not what the masses know at all. you can't just disregard all the crap that was prominent in the 80s just because of a few influential artists.

however, i WILL stand corrected in not giving enough credit to the 80s for birthing many popular-to-be genres, and i think that you CAN disregard a couple crappy genres in a decade if a bunch of great ones were spawned

So hip hop , electronica , metal & post punk don't count?

And I don't think i've ever bitched about independent labels putting out music by bands that wouldn't normally be heard.

Those genres have stagnated beyond repair.

And I was referring to others, not you.

That's a bit like saying you won't buy a Joy Division album from 1980 because Interpol released a sh*ty album in 2007.

Your loss I spose
