Laces Out Dan! 04-27-2007 04:27 PM

I dont like Damage plan..or Pantera all that much for that matter. But my sister bought Dimevision yesterday..and i watched it..and all i can say is mad props to those guys. They have fun.

Voice_of_the_Soul12,13,01 04-27-2007 10:17 PM

Pantera was another one of those bands that opened doors for me into better realms of metal.

Damageplan would have been nothing without Dimebag. They'd just be another typical alt. metal band.

Cowboys from Hell through and including Great Southern Trend Kill are my favorites.

Trey 05-19-2009 07:41 AM

I read the first page back in the day with a smile rememberin' dime and ****. Then without even realizing got down til' later after he died and my heart just sank. Then as I read it was fight after fight...come on guys delete that **** and fight on another thread. This is Dime's. Damn I'm bummed

Cowboys from Hell
It Makes Them Disappear
Flood
10's
**** you
Walk
Thirteen Steps to Nowhere

boo boo 05-19-2009 06:17 PM

I like Pantera more than Metallica.

Does that make me a bad person?

Trey 05-19-2009 08:20 PM

Hell no it doesn't make you a bad person. Pantera is a legend. Well so is Metallica but they sold out.

Antonio 11-01-2009 01:12 AM

my favorite album from Pantera is Far Beyond Driven. VDoP was really good, but i don't think FBD gets enough credit as it's them really starting to use the groove elements in their music.

and yeah, it's ok to like Pantera more than Metalica :)

SATCHMO 11-01-2009 02:04 AM

I can't believe I didn't know they released 4 albums prior to CFH

Antonio 11-01-2009 02:12 AM

yeah, that was before Phil Anselmo joined the band, when believe it or not, they were originally a glam metal outfit.

SATCHMO 11-01-2009 02:14 AM

That's funneh'. I hope Dime shaved.

Unknown Soldier 11-01-2009 02:18 AM

Hey, I`ve just come across this thread and without doubt Pantera are one of my all time fav metal bands and albums like "A Vulgar Display of Power" and "The Great Southern Trendkill" would always make high positions on any all time fav metal albums list of mine. As for best songs, its a hard choice but these came straight to mind:

Cemetery Gates
Fu**ing Hostile
This Love
Goddamn Electric
Walk
A New Level
Hollow
Psycho Holiday
Drag the Waters
The Art of Shredding

If you look at some photos from their glam metal era, they all look very girly.

SATCHMO 11-01-2009 02:24 AM

LOL at that pic, forgot about that

Throwdown are IMO turning into Pantera

Ronnie Jane Devo 01-01-2010 09:22 PM

Pantera - offically the greatest metal band to get drunk to, ever.

Are you talkin' to me?
Are you talkin' to me?!?
No way, punk!!!

King_Matt 03-22-2011 09:25 PM

Pantera

What do you think of them?

Personally they're are one of my favorite metal bands.

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 03-22-2011 09:52 PM

Overrated, basically thrash at half the speed.

^ In other words, groove metal, and that's just their 90s material. They were actually a glam band at one point in the 80s, but they gradually made their music heavier as the 90s drew closer.

I like alot of there stuff actually, I like both their glam/80s metal era as well as their groove metal era. Power Metal is one of the best metal albums ever in my opinion.

The Virgin 03-23-2011 12:32 AM

I just browsed them on wiki, and all of them looked so ancient. sorry, but in a band, you need to have a single person whose marketable, physically. or none will appreciate them.

That is why they were one of the biggest selling metal acts of the 90's? Troll on.

Pantera is one of my favorite bands.

I'm not too worried if you believe it or not. You are obviously capable of using the internet. Look it up yourself if you want the proof.

There's already a thread here:

The search function is your friend :)

You might also want to explain a bit more why you like them.

Really!!! What`s so ancient looking about a metal band from the 90`s? Why does one person have to be marketable, they`re a metal band and not a boy band!!!

As Buzzoven said, they`re one of the biggest selling metal bands of all time (a fact) and Dimebag Darrell one of the most revered of metal guitarists. In Phil Anselmo they had one of the most impressive and distinctive metal vocalists ever.

No you don't. If you have a good understanding of music you will know that good musicians and passionate performers who really care about their art no matter what they look like will make people appreciate them, and what's more the people that do appreciate will appreciate them far longer than any throwaway pop artist.
Dimebag and Vinnie Paul lived for music and that was what made Pantera so popular.

The Virgin 03-23-2011 05:18 AM

they must be popular only in your country, but not international

I can't believe what I'm reading. If you don't know anything about something, why write about it?

King_Matt 03-23-2011 06:28 AM

Cowboys from Hell but Far Beyond Driven is a close second.

They were one of the most popular metal acts in the USA, also in my country the UK as well! Anybody that I know from other parts of the world, that`s into metal knows them as well............maybe the Philippines has an isolationist policy on metal music.....or maybe you`ve lived a rather sheltered life...........or as the name suggests, your`re virginal in when it comes to music.

troll on. Not knowing Pantera, Billy Joel, or Kurt Cobain makes you either a troll or a complete moron.

Strange that there's an official Pantera thread, but not Official Metal Discussion thread..

That would be a little broad, eh? That's what this whole sub-forum is for.

haha - agreed - unless they're from some remote community in Greenland (though I would think that Nirvana would be iconic even there)

Pantera?

Are they seriously still doing concerts without dimebag?
What about new music, have they done anything?

No. They are quite broken up. If you need something heavy with Phil Anselmo singing, may I suggest Down? Better band than Pantera anyway.
