Your First Rock Album

LP or CD the first one you remember buying as a child.

For me it was 1963 when I bought the Byrds turn, turn, turn album.

For Hard Rock it was Led Zeppelin I and II on the same day in 1970.

For Metal Black Sabbath's Paranoid a couple years later.

Frances 08-16-2007 09:06 PM

The first album I bought was Alice In Chains - Facelift when I was 10.
Before that I just had Mums records.

Larkrise 08-16-2007 09:29 PM

I was given all my albums as gifts up until I was about 13. I bought Nirvana In Utero with some birthday money...way back in 1993, shortly after it was released! I skipped class and went downtown to buy it at this store called Turk's.

Does it have to be an LP or a CD? What about a cassette? Yeah, that's right, I grew up in the 80s. All the music I bought was on cassette. :D

Anyway, the first cassette I ever bought was "Document" by REM when I was in 4th grade back in 1987, when that album was brand spanking new.

I didn't own a CD player until the fall of 1992. The first CD I ever bought was "Swing the Heartache" by Bauhaus. I remember I didn't have much money on me and had to choose between buying dinner or buying the CD. Even though I was really, really hungry I figured I'd be happier the next day if I bought the CD so I went for it.

And I think the first record I ever purchased was "Meddle" by Pink Floyd. I was in 7th grade so that would make the year 1989 or 1990.

Bing Crosby's "White Christmas".

The Byrds were formed in 1964. "Turn! Turn! Turn!" was released in December of 1965.

Lol.

Memory cheats sometimes.

I had a massive argument with my friends mother when she was totally convinced she bought Alice Cooper's Schools Out album in 1969.

dhood8083 08-20-2007 06:29 PM

Smash Hits by Jimi Hendrix. I was 15 years old in 1985. I had always loved listening to music on the radio, but never bought an album or record before this, believe it or not.

Music Man 08-21-2007 03:33 AM

"Rubber Soul"--The Beatles

Give the man a break. I'm over 15 years younger, and my memory is shot to bits, so Jay's must be completely shot. Bless.

In my previous post that you quoted, please show me precisely where I ridiculed or disrespected him in any way.

He posted some incorrect info, then I posted the correct info. All without any smartass remarks or goofy smilies.

littleknowitall 08-22-2007 06:14 AM

pink floyd - dark side of the moon, but i didn't buy it, i stole it from my dad :)

Son of JayJamJah 08-22-2007 10:31 AM

No disrespect at all music man you simply corrected by error. I would have been 6 or 7 in 1963, so it's unlikely it'd been then even if the Byrds had formed.

It was meant as a joke my good man.

7th Grade, AC/DC Back In Black and a Led Zeppelin: Early Days and Latter Days

Frances 08-23-2007 10:05 PM

Ok, so I've posted the first album I bought (AIC - Facelift)

But before that My Mum tried to mould me into a little Johnny Farnham. I had every album up to 1990 ish, and the haircut to match. I knew all the words and was even taken to a concert on my 9th or 10th birthday.

And as I chose to write this for you to read, Yes, I am willing to be laughed at.:o:

Loser 08-23-2007 10:06 PM

My first album....I think it was Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation

sleepy jack 08-23-2007 10:12 PM

I'm fairly sure mine was Enema of the State or Dude Ranch. It was Blink I know that.

Brock Landers 08-23-2007 11:01 PM

I believe my first album (tape) was Classic Queen, I now own it on CD :)

mixed meters 08-24-2007 01:42 PM

The Beatles anything by them

Dead-In-Horrorwood 08-26-2007 01:32 PM

The first "rock" album I ever owned was a burned copy of Sum 41's "All Killer, No Filler" & Linkin Park's "Hybrid Theory/Reanimation" (I'm still not sure which one it was to this day) on the same CD.

I still love Linkin Park. And Sum 41 helped fuel my later love for punk rock. I didn't really get into rock music in general for a few years later though with bands like System Of A Down, Linkin Park & Limp Bizkit.
