Eh, well, as for BSSM I love nearly every song--I don't care for 'Breaking the Girl' and 'They're Red Hot' but the latter is only like a minute long and the last track so I don't really care. Everything else has either a funky guitar riff or thumpin' bass line that get me movin'. I do think they take that album too seriously and it makes me miss the playfulness of earlier albums, but the musicianship is soo excellent.

I was watching this youtube video last night and though I should share it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roKXo115qVY

One quote by Flea at the end sticks out to me: "We play **** that is too funked out to get on white radio and too rocked out to get on black radio."

If you've read Scar Tissue you might remember Flea's first concern when they went looking for a new record label was (paraphrasing) "who can get us the most radio play?"

20 years

a pile of drugs

overdoses and baby births

life, love, death, and hate

all go a long way in changing a person's perspective on things.

I used to be in the camp of people who couldn't listen to anything pre-BSSM, but I just started listening to Freaky Styley, and it is some of the funkiest **** I've heard in my life. Definitely excited for the rest of their older stuff.

I agree completely... apart from 'Breaking the Girl' and 'They're Red Hot' I love every other song on the album. I don't think it sounds like two EPs smashed together at all. Nearly every song has such great funky guitar and killer bass riffs, and most are incredibly catchy. It's still my favourite release from them.

Aww I love Breaking the Girl. Nowadays I favour Mother's Milk slightly over BSSM.

In other news, Love Trilogy is awesome.

What are some people's favorite Chili Pepper's albums? I really can't decide but Blood Sugar Sex Magik might be the one.
