k ya thye died while he was popular thats what im saying....you undertsand or not? if you don't i can explain it like this, k a famous musician dies at the peak of his career is bound to be forever loved, but a musician that gets to their peak and then comes to a sad end then ya you can't say that the musicain that died is better like, they died before you could see them at the end of thier peak, but im not saying that you have to like DT, i'm saying to use Kurt as an excuse it's getting old....i hate when people do that, they don't know any other good musicians than those that everyone else speaks about you get what im saying?

You probably missed the reason Kurt Cobain was mentioned in the first place.

I dislike Dream Theater alot. I have great respect for them as muscians, but find their muic dumb, emotionless, wanking.

The point under the surface we're all dancing around is that very seldom is 'Musican's music' very good on the whole. Racer-X were very cool, much better than DT, but who actually bought their albums?
Remember 'Mr. Big'? Pretty cheesy stuff, but they sold alot of albums for a while. The biggest joke in the industry because that band had likely the best musicans ever - Paul Gilbert, Billy Sheehan,... Playing WAY BELOW their abilities and selling alot of music. The intro to 'Green-tinted 60's mind' is some great two handed tapping stuff, but it was catchy.
XTC, I've always believed, were prog disguised as catchy 80's pop. It sounded fun and light, but has some great guitar/bass parts and alot of time sig. changes. Listen to Ross Childress' playing with Collective Soul. He is an amazing musican who wote deceptively simple sounding guitar licks.

It's about blending- Dream Theater sound mechanical and lifeless because it's not catcy as a whole.

I find all prog/rock music emotionless. I still like it quite a bit. Rock music for the most part is catchy (or in some rare cases such as King Crimson intense) which is the point of it. Compare any rock band to Stravinsky and there's no emotion in it at all. DT is one of the catchiest bands of all time, but in all I like Transatlantic more.
