I think Kurt began to dislike his fame once he achieved it but if he'd really hated the idea of being famous he would've never left Subpop.
Word word word. Why the hell go major label if you want to stay smalltime? Same goes for the rest of the bands like Pearl Jam with Ten and so forth. I hate it when people try to turn these characters into some sort of angels who were diametrically opposed to success, fame and fortune. Like that's supposed to make them better artists or something. Foolish.

i don't think it was ever an issue of the bands disliking success. they disliked the way mass media warped their success to propagate their own ends.

either way in utero owns.

DOLL STEAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In Utero easily. And i'd say over the years i appreciate Bleach far more than Nevermind as well.

I would pick nevermind over Utero just because of that song alone

Smile In Utero

Nice topic, one i've thought about on a few occassions.

I have a thing for buying vinyl only when an album is one of my absolute favourite albums. I bought In utero on vinyl but not nevermind. IMO in utero is better, (not to say nevermind isn't a great album). The lyrics imo are better (especially heart shaped box), the music is a heavier and 'less radio friendly' which i prefer and the album as a whole seems to hang together better.

I would say that over-listening might be a problem for nevermind though and that many of the songs on in utero are not going to be heard on most radio stations.

In Utero. Scentless Apprentice does it for me.

I've always had a fondness for Nevermind, it was my first CD.

Frankly I don't think the songs on either are going to be heard on many radio stations...

I have been told that most Nirvana fans prefer In Utero. That being said I remember the first time I heard "Smells Like Teen Spirit" on the radio. I thought this song is going to change the face of music. And it did forever. Let it be known that I am not really a Nirvana fan and I think Cobain's playing is way over-rated. However, Nevermind is not. It is a classic album.
Dave Grohl continues to prove who the most talented member of that band was.
