I'm surprised the Japandroids haven't been mentioned here. They released one of my favorites from last year. I guess the best way to describe these guys is "garage shoegaze". Their lyrics aren't anything too complex, but damn is Brian King creative on guitar. They are also strictly a two piece...drums and guitar. These are from their album Post Nothing, really addictive stuff...

I personally wouldnt place Japandroids under the shoegaze tag, to me they're just noisy, powerful garage rock. They're decent, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Post Nothing a lot, but I just wouldnt say they're shoegaze.
