You're right about Grant but he's also right about certain facts. You don't just go around making up things like that and hope no one will call you on it.

yeah, it was definitely the success that did him in......
the only thing I find weird is that I'm pretty sure he dreamed of being the biggest rock star in the world when he was a kid,so you'd think he would be more primed for it.

I think it's interesting what his death has done to the world of rock. You will notice that there were several bands come out of that area, with the same musical style, and make very good music, with great success to go along with it, right about that time.
Now, it seems like everyone wants to not be the next Nirvana. I mean, everyone wants to be a huge success, celebrity not always withstanding.
Soundgarden came out with SuperUnknown in 1994, and they were supposed to become the biggest band in the world, and replace Nirvana. It didn't happen, because I think Chris Cornell and the band, they didn't want to tour much, or promote the album very much. They accepted a role of just kind of fading from the limelight, although they did have a few hit singles on that record.
Since Cobain's death, no band in rock has really been able to catch everyone's attention in a take over the world/genre sense. Radiohead are close, but they're so closed off, and sometimes I think that their attempt to be so un-mainstream/popular, it might hold back their music a little bit. Tool is another close band; again they're just behind close doors, and big expectations kind of killed their last album.
So in summary, I think everyone wants to be Kurt Cobain, but no one wants to be Kurt Cobain at the same time, particularly the latter.

Or it could be that the world didn't really feel like listening to a bunch of third rate Sabbath riffs with Cornell wailing over them.

Like it or not it was Oasis who replaced the gap filled by Nirvana. Maybe not in the US but around the rest of the world.

Well, that was in his suicide note, but he was quoting Neil Young (I believe). The fact that he said it had such an impact on Young that he recorded several songs in his honor.

Nirvana is great. Their music wasn't exactly depressing but it had some sort of dark euphoria to it...it was happy all while being depressing, maybe it was a reflection of Kurt's life.

Thank you for the sarcasm...

I know it was a reflection of his life, I just meant in a way like we all have that dark euphoria to our lives and Kurt was one to really bring it out in people through music...thus attracting fans.
