Its a great thing Kurt died, otherwise he might still producing the same **** and influencing nu-metal kids.

explosions-in-my-pants 01-28-2006 12:37 PM

i've always liked nirvana, but i'm stil confused as to wether he killed himself or it just looked that way.. dun dun dun! anyways but its like i liked them and listened to them alot growing up that now its not that it bore's me its more like we know there's no new music coming out and then i just got sick of hearing the same songs over and over and there's not a whole lot of music period by them.. and also after a while all there songs kind of start to sound the same.. could be just me but ya that is what i think.. :o)

ArtistInTheAmbulance 01-28-2006 12:50 PM

Right.
Story time.
Ok, I have this jacket with a Nirvana patch on the back, and this kid comes up to me at college a couple days ago, and tells me to grow up and stop listening to childrens music. I just called him a tit and walked away, but still, its not like you'd only listen to music because of its message or whatever.
Grr.

i quite enjoy just about every track from nevermind. "come as you are" has one of the best basslines from all time and "smells like teen spirit" is gonna be an oldie when we're all 50 and want to bug our kids with "old people music"

:afro:

sTEVE!

Shooting Star 01-28-2006 04:51 PM

The songs to pick on that poll offer a very limited variety. They're all from Nevermind and the best song on Nevermind (Drain You) isn't even there. Alas.

bzbee 01-29-2006 06:48 PM

I was and still am a huge fan of Nirvana. One of my biggest regrets is not having the opportunity to see them in concert before Kurt died.

MercyTribe 02-01-2006 02:16 PM

Wow.

I consider myself a true blue Nirvana fan. I was 24 when he died and was really devastated and baffled. I didn't listen to them for a couple of years, but slowly got back into them.

I actually think Nevermind is the worse album that they produced. Some good songs, but songs on Insesticide and In Utero are way better (in my opinion).

I occassionally post on an Nirvana forum and on an 'introduce yourself' thread I was quite dismayed to see @ 35 I was by far the oldest one out of the 40 or so that participated on the forum. There were 13 yo kids. Couldn't believe it. But I honestly don't care who likes them and it's hard to deny that the music industry has commericialized them into oblivian. For me, it's about the passion behind Kurt's vocals/lyrics, Grohl's/Crover's/Channing's drumming, and Krist's great riffs. Made a huge impact on my life and let's face it, Nirvana killed hair metal for good (thank the good Lord for that).

Merkaba 02-01-2006 02:23 PM

Most of us are between 15 and 25. And Incesticide is a great album, but I don't fancy In Utero as much, apart from Serve The Servants.

Oh and welcome:)

tdoc210 02-01-2006 08:44 PM

hoarmoans =ep that i have of them hmm those songs were all put on insecticide though

shenron1 02-02-2006 12:08 PM

'Nirvana killed rock, they turned it into "depression"...which isn't what rock is about'

Nirvana killed the 'Hairband' rock that was shallow and pathetic. Nirvana didn't kill rock, they revived it. In the spirit of Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, and Velvet Underground, they went against the grain and created something that was raw and refreshing.

**Sarah** 02-13-2006 11:03 AM

Best song for me would be Rape Me, Not the biggest Nirvana fan but do appreciate the music!

They didn't "create" anything.
I can name plenty of bands that sounded like Nirvana, before Nirvana.
They just made it popular. Which is ironic since they were, oh yeah "alternative" musicians

sleepy jack 02-13-2006 03:40 PM

I realize he was partially wrong, but why do you bother posting in here bungalowbill? Most of what you have to say is negative, and i'm pretty sure we all know you don't like nirvana but posting and arguing about it excessively isn't going to lead to anything good.

bungalow 02-13-2006 03:41 PM

You're one to talk.
Read the Sublime thread......then come in here and tell me that again.

'Hairband' rock killed itself by being sh*t since about 1983 onwards, Nirvana filled the gap it created.

Interesting choice of bands you chose , you denounce 'hairband' rock as being shallow then go on to list a cock rock band , a band who sing mostly about sex & drug and Black Sabbath , a band as much as I love I can`t ever recall being known as for writing thought provoking lyrics.

Just as a statement Meat Puppets were a lot better than Nirvana and they were around during that time and before I believe. And they were a hell of a lot better. And Nirvana didn't create much they just made the grunge scene more mainstream for a couple of years.

Merkaba 02-13-2006 05:16 PM

Screaming Trees were pretty bloody good too. They were another neglected grunge band alongside the Meat Puppets.

tdoc210 03-24-2006 06:47 PM

i got sliver just for the three unreLEASED tracks its good even though i got teh box set

http://www.gigwise.com/news.asp?contentid=15308 and Courtney sold 25% of the 98% of rights she has to nirvana, and in the article she was talking about how she didn't know what to do with it all and all the work of nirvana she has, just has fallen onto her lap and blah blah blah. She made it seem like she was the rights she had we're forced upon her.

EDIT: article link: http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=194312

Lets just hope she wont sell Nirvanas catalog to Michael Jackson only so he can sell the Smells Like Teen Spirit song rights to Nike and make a quick billion dollars.

Sebster17 04-01-2006 09:39 AM

I think he was a musical genius. Really, one of the most influential people in music. When watching a show about him on the Canadian music channel, Muchmusic, they said that Grunge music died when Kurt died, and I thought that showed how important he was to not just the '90's but of all time.

ArtistInTheAmbulance 04-01-2006 11:46 AM

Or how much the media like to spin things out of proportion, either way.
That being said, I love Nirvana and think they did wonders, but still.. To say that..

Zeke 04-01-2006 12:08 PM

I picked come as you are cause thats the only one up there that was the best my favorite one is probably In Bloom and Sappy those songs rock bigtime. Nirvana is the best band ever to come and ever that will be. They sure know how to write music and play music!

MURDER JUNKIE 04-01-2006 12:14 PM

heh heh!!!

manuel1984 04-03-2006 12:58 PM

I really like Nirvana, still listen to em on a regular basis, have all albums on ma ipod for them boring days working!
I feel that smells like really defines a stage of my younger life!

Nikie Pentagram 04-03-2006 01:54 PM

Well, I dare say all of what I'm about to say will have been said before, but I'm a newcomer so never mind ^^

I liked Kurt Cobain. For his mind and music. BUT I think it was an idiot to kill himself, and unlike some blind Nirvana fans, I will not defend him until the day I die. Because, in my opinion, he could of done so much with his life. If he was tired of the fame, and tired of selling out, which he felt he was, he felt he'd turned into something he never wanted to become, then he should of retired to a private Island with Baby Francais and his terrible Wife (yeesh)

I've got all of the albums, worn them out, and can play two of his songs on the Guitar. I am a Nirvana fan. Somehow ... saying it feels rather embarrassing as there are so many o.O anyway, my fave' songs are none of the listed above. These are them ...
- Francais Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle
- Very Ape
- Breed
- Heart Shaped Box
