If he is about 12 he'd think NOFX is the punkest band ever.

Well first of all, Sabbath isn't oldies thats jsut crap.

Ok, but I can relate to your son when I was in school. Me being a child of the 80s, as a kid I listened to what I now call "stupid hair metal bands". But then in 8th grade my dad finally got me to listen to Led Zeppelin.....and well my interest in good music took off from there. And now I like blues, rock, folk, reggae, jazz, among much much else.

So what I'm saying is, don't bash his music. Just do like my dad did and when you two are in the car, try and turn on something good. But don't make it something he might not be able to relate to. My suggestion is try Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd (they're still quite popular, so he might have heard of them), Thin Lizzy, and Blue Oyster Cult. Basically any hard rockish stuff, then hopefully his taste in music will kick off from there.

Hoped this help.

1. Black sabbath is crap?
2. 40 years ago isn't old?
3. Pink Floyd is hard rock?

if he got you into led zeppelin then this guy should be trying to get his son into bands that just formed 10 years ago. not bands from the 70s... dont push the classics on him too fast..

I personally also suggest that you find some current bands that you can stand and try to convince him into that.
