Jerry Cantrell!!!!
 

I just saw him last night at irving plaza (with camp freddy....sooo good)
He was ****in amazing!!!!! Man in the box was great, just incase you dont know about Camp Freddy, its kind of an "all star band" of sorts, with several guests making appearances such as cantrell, courney love, Slash, Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum, Weiland went to at least one show.....mmm

Its so indescibable to see Jerry rockin out just a couple feet away after all these years of seein him and AIC on tv and radio......(i was too young to see alice :( )
Dave navarro was so great too.....
I met him, Cantrell and Perk (steven perkins, the drummer for janes addiction, Porno For Pyros, Banion, CF, lotsa others....)
All very nice guys, especially dave, hes a very sweet guy.....*sigh*

Sounds like a great show. I took my ex to see him about three months after Layne died, and it was a very emotional show, all the Alice numbers got a massive ovation that night, but his solo stuff was really good too.

Cantrell is my biggest insipiration and has ALWAYS been my favorite musician of all time.
I love ALL his work, he's NEVER let me down.

Jerry Cantrell is one of my favorite guitarist, writers, and vocalist! He's one of the greatest musicans of all time. He can do it all! He can write music, he can play guitar, he can write superb lyrics, and he can sing extremely well. He is too good for words.

Jerry Cantrell is one of my absolute favorite musicians of all time. Though I like some songs more than others, I can't say that he's ever let me down with any of his repertoire. A true artistic mind.

Jerry Cantrell is a really good musician. Although I have to admit I wasn't too impressed with his post-AIC career.

Hell, why not? I rarely stop to check the dates on the forums. Oh well.

But with that being said, I'll spill my guts a bit about Cantrell: He was definitely the definitive driving force behind AIC in my opinion. Listening to his solo work only made it more obvious to me of exactly how much Alice In Chains' sound was molded by his style. Granted, AIC was a mash of excellent creative minds, culminating in the kind of sonic monstrosity that it came to be, but Jerry's solo work, particularly Boggy Depot, is really great. It's more subtle and bluesy, and in stepping in his own direction, I think he did something awesome, instead of trying to write music that would sound like Alice in Chains.

Cantrell wrote a lot of good lyrics post-AIC, but I didn't like the music that went with it so much. A bit more aggression would have helped. He seemed to be heading in that direction with Degradation Trip, which was better than Boggy Depot. Still not as good as AIC, though.

if jerry cantrell hadn't put his actual name on 'boggy depot' virtually no one would have looked at it twice.

'cut you in' might have made a minor impact, about as much as the 'seven mary three' single from around the same time. anyone else remember them? how about candlebox?

alice in chains got lucky in the fact that they were able to be more than the sum of their parts when everything was working to their advantage. outside of that group the individual members just weren't that outstanding. they don't suck, they're just not that great either.

I'm curious to what you've heard from them as a band (AIC) and individually. I went through a period of youtubing them and they never fail to touch me. Staley's voice on it's own is enough to give me goosebumps. I think Jerry Cantrell is as humble as they come for all the attention the band has received. Though his solo albums can get under my skin at times when it gets way too emotional for my liking, I think Boggy Depot is phenomenal.
