That was not my point. My point was, if somebody wishes to give too broad a definition to rock, one could (if they really tried) even identify influences for hip hop music in the rock movement. Which of course would be a ridiculous step.

I wish people would stop thinking rock is THE genre.
That was my point.

Best way is to leave VERY conventionalized genres as they are and with their own label, in spite of the point that they were borne out of rock music.
Except the fact that punk's point was to take rock back to original conventions. Rap does not have that strong of a connection to rock. Plus, rap is far more diverse than punk in the amount of music released.

I'd be against this simply because if everything was lumped into one forum then most threads would be pushed back to the 2nd page in no time at all, its better to have sub-forums.
I agree, so have sub-forums for all the styles I listed under the forum of rock. This makes the most sense.

Yeah but then you've got all the post-punk and new wave....

That still doesn't warrant a whole genre. It's too similar sounding to rock and there isn't enough styles born out of punk.

Get ready boys and girls...for another 50 page genre argument.

On a side note, i do agree with the sub forum upto an extent.
Rock & metal are just too broad imo.
But then, i don't agree with the rest just termed as 'rock'.
Metal can have its own section as well, and maybe keep the rest as...modern rock?(IDK, too many sub genres here as well)

They are all rock that I listed though. Metal is most definitely a form of rock, and anyone who can't hear that is deaf. Modern rock isn't very descripitive. There are many different styles of rock that could be modern rock these days.

We're not talking about genres were talking about forums on a message board. Do you really want about 50 different 'rock' forums?

Well, anything is fine with me actually.

I wouldn't be bothered much if there is a sub forum or two at the most.

How about a post punk sub forum, i mean i don't think Joy Division should be in the Punk forum. So Post-Punk sub forum would be cool for bands like the Fall, Gang of Four, Public Image Ltd..........ect.

I know what you mean but it could end up with the forum being clogged up with far too many sub forums. The whole purpose of the Prog sub forum was to differentiate between a genre that next to Electronic is the most expansive and filled with many sub genres. Whilst the Electronic forum doesnt need a sub forum due to the lack of posts, the Metal forum does need a sub forum. There is a huge difference between artists like Neil young and Agalloch for example.

The rock forum is usually the most used next to General, so adding a sub forum is welcome in my eyes.
