If 80's Metallica is beautiful fine china, then DM is boring white paper tableware, and is going in garbage. Good riddance!

Death Magnetic is pretty good overall. All Nightmare Long and Judas Kiss are awesome, and they have some of the best choruses in any Metallica song.
Heh I doubt very much that thats true :P

Seriously, if you bought the new record to compare it to 80's Metallica with the aim of throwing it away if it wasnt as good then where you have been for the last 2 decades?

Death Magnetic is amazing.

Love

All Nightmare Long

I was disappointed with Unforgiven III though.

I honestly thought the album was pretty awesome. My only complaint would be that a few of the songs drag on a bit too long. All Nightmare Long, Broken Beat & Scarred and Suicide & Redemption would be my personal favourites.

I see people flaming Suicide & Redemption all the time but once it draws you in it's a great instrumental if you truly appreciate music.

Also, I myself love Metallica's 80's work. People need to realise they're not in their 20's anymore. Age does take it's toll in places. They're still one the best bands around in my opinion. Better than a majority of this metalcore crap on the market nowadays.

The new Metallica record is completely pointless and proves they're completely enamoured by their own self-indulgences of the past 15 years, and could care less about keeping up with the times. The mere fact these songs are over 6 minutes and don't evolve past the opening riff, first verse and chorus prove how arrogant and lazy Metallica has become. Suicide & Redemption is sheer torture, after 50 odd minutes, listening to the lame exchanges between Kirk and Lars, reminded me one final time how boring and predictable they've become. Congrats Metallica for setting up the public and making another killing.

And then I realized... like I was shot... like I was shot with a diamond... a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought: My God... the genius of that.

I use to be a HUGE fan. But, I was totally unimpressed with this album. It's proof that Metallica has made it to the top, that is all. It debuted at Number One on the billboard. Ok? Why is Metallica on Billboard? I like Load, I liked reLoad, the Black Album is classic. What happened? I cried... I've come to enjoy Metallica's change in styling and attitude, but ****! At least make some decent music while you are at it.

On a scale of 1-10, I give death Magnet a 3, because I know these guys are capable of amazing music and The Day That Never Comes is a pretty cool tune. It's the only song on the album I liked.

I gave up on Metallica years ago.

But remain ever hopeful!
