of course, this statement ignores the fact that St. Anger is a steaming pile of sh*t and the majority of Metallica's fanbase seems to agree.

opinions on Death Magnetic and Countdown to Self-Destruction seem to vary.

Anyone who listens to their last two albums enough to have opinions they could debate either still has a mullet or wishes they had the balls to grow one.

I thought both of their last two albums were good.

Same, and I had a mullet for two years.

I remember it being fine but having no need to ever listen to it again. It's probably the best album they had left in them so they should retire with at least a little bit of dignity.

with one of the big four (Slayer) already gone, maybe it's time Metallica retired too.

i've heard rumours that Dave Mustaine is considering retirement, but i can't find anything to back that up.

****, St. Anger is better than Hardwired or Death Magnetic. Those two pieces of crap just bore me to tears with how unoriginal and generic they sound, whereas St. Anger tries at least to bring the band into a new direction. I would never compare St. Anger even to The Black Album, it's not great, but I like half of the songs on it at least. I think it's overhated, I even used to hate it but now when I listen to it it just sounds like they're trying to do their own take on some System of a Down style nu metal.
