I'll agree with MOP and Raining Blood. But as for the rest, meh.

I'm not usually much of a fan of crazy guitar solos. I much prefer good songwriting over a show of technical skill. With that said, here are a few of my favorites:

maudlin of the Well - Birth Pains of Astral Projection
Porcupine Tree - Dark Matter
Opeth - Blackwater Park
Rush - La Villa Strangiato

Incidentally, most of the lead guitar on Master of Puppets is actually Hetfield. It's one of the rare Metallica tunes where he plays a proper solo as opposed to a harmony lead. Hammett does still play the faster more noodly solo though.

Personally this little ditty tops all guitar work for me - a moment of pure lucidity in an album filled with strife and chaos:
