Best Guitar Solos

Which are the best guitar solos? The good ones anyway. Like eruption (Van Halen) or Fade to Black (metallica). Wait let me add one more Hallow be thy name (iron maiden).

Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd has an awesome solo in it. One of my personal favs.

Not being so much of a metal fan these days, I guess I can't really judge, but here's one of my favourites anyway (at 1:30-something). I think it's Robert Fripp who plays this solo...

Maggot Brain, ten minutes of blissful psychedelia drenched in reverb. From a 70's funk band no less.

Plus, the opening line is brilliant.

*fixed

But seriously there are about 4 or 5 Pink Floyd guitar solos that come to mind, as no one puts as much emotion into a guitar as Mr. Gilmour.

Also The Trees by Rush is a personal favorite.

you know the story behind that solo?

according to legend george clinton told eddie hazel to play as if his mother just died. they turned out the lights, hit record, and never bothered with a 2nd take.

my personal favourite rock solo comes from a simliar studio fluke. 'three days' is the only song all 4 original members of jane's addiction recorded together on their 'ritual de lo habitual' album prior to breaking up. the whole song was recorded in one take (more impressive when you consider it's length and complexity coupled with the bands excessive drug use). the live version that was released on 'kettle whistle' a few years later is even better.

I quite like this one...

Some really great moments throughout the song, doesn't hurt that Captain Beefheart is on vocals.

Jimmy Page solo in "Stairway to Heaven" and Kirk Hammet solo in "Master of Puppets".
