Bands that you used to like, that you no longer do.

It's real simple. What are some bands that you used to listen to, that you no longer listen to and the reason(s) why.

Personally, Shadows Fall and Mastodon.

I can't really explain it, I know they're both talented bands, but I just can't get into them anymore. Although, I will give "Blood and Thunder" a listen to every now and then. I think the biggest problem I have with these two bands is that I simply don't like the vocalists anymore. Again, talented but not my cup of tea.

Ace 01-19-2009 01:05 AM

Britney Spears.

I used to think she'd be kind of fun to molest, until I saw up her skirt as she was getting out of a limo.

...wait, are we talking about musical reasons as to why we no loner like them as much?

Trendkiller 01-19-2009 01:07 AM

Originally, that was this thread's intent. But that's still relevant in my book, because I agree completely. lol.

Ace 01-19-2009 01:11 AM

I think radio airplay does alot to influence our opinions of bands, both good and bad.
There are some songs and bands that I don't like as much as I used to, simply because I hear them every few seconds on the radio.

A primary example for me, would be Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I love the band, but thanks to hearing the songs so much, I can barely stand to listen to them at all sometimes.

RoemerMW 01-19-2009 01:23 AM

Nickelback
Avenged Sevenfold
AFI
30 Seconds to Mars
Bon Jovi
Rammstein

...I used to be a musical dumbass, I truly regret my wasted years of having a complete lack of taste.

Ace 01-19-2009 01:25 AM

The only thing really wrong with that list, is Avenged Sevenfold.

Props to Jovi.

I'm confused by what you mean. Wrong as in Avenged Sevenfold is the only band I listed that sucks, or Avenged Sevenfold is the only band I listed that doesn't suck?

Ace 01-19-2009 01:49 AM

They suck.

They suck hard.

Comus 01-19-2009 02:50 AM

Now there's nothing bloody wrong with Bon Jovi.

Bulldog 01-19-2009 03:15 AM

I listened to all kinds of garbage when I was a kid. Namely;

Linkin Park
Papa Roach
Limp Bizkit
Korn
Green Day
Nickelback
Blink 182

Among others I can't remember right now...

Zer0 01-19-2009 03:50 AM

One band i used to be a big fan of was AFI, but when i heard Decemberunderground i just felt alienated. They sounded more suitable to 15 year old emos rather than a maturing fanbase. They were great up to that point though.

Even some metal bands that i used listen to like Megadeth and Iron Maiden have no appeal to me anymore.
Then theres the usual stuff like Green Day, Sum 41 (lol) and SOAD.

I take it you don't like The Smiths then.

dac 01-19-2009 10:29 AM

Zeppelin. A mixture of over exposure and being annoyed with their fans and airplay caused me to stop listening.

Wait what?

Not to be overly nasty but you are aware that your favourite band is Radiohead right?

radioheadbashingftw.

Alfred 01-19-2009 11:02 AM

Sum 41
Green Day
AFI
NOFX

and I was the type of person who liked one or two songs by a band, and thought I was a fan:

We The Kings
All Time Low
Saliva

I was so punk rock.

Janszoon 01-19-2009 11:09 AM

I don't really ever stop liking bands. I may stop listening to them regularly and I may not buy any of their new albums but I'll still pop on something by them every once in a while, even if just for the sake of nostalgia. Yes, this is even true for the self-titled Whitesnake album I bought on cassette when I was ten years old.

CUZ HERE I GO AGAIN ON MY OHHHH-OWN!

The Wild Man 01-19-2009 11:26 AM

Deep Purple had some good ones, but they just couldn't expand their sound.

KoRn...say what you want, but that was some damn fine music to listen to before hitting someone on the football field. After Head left, they tried to be like NIN and it didn't work.

Ace 01-19-2009 12:07 PM

I'd have to agree with Zeppelin too.
I hear so much of them on the radio, I really don't want to listen to them much anymore.

khfreek 01-19-2009 12:54 PM

Three Days Grace... sigh

gunnels 01-19-2009 01:02 PM

My Chemical Romance
Bullet for my Valentine
Fallout Boy
All 80's hair bands
Slipknot
DU onward AFI

I shamefully admit I used to be an eyeliner wearing emo kid. :(

I still AFI like before the damned bunny album came out. Art of Drowning is a great album. I may pick up Black Sails soon.

lucifer_sam 01-19-2009 01:02 PM

I have to admit that I've grown bored of almost all post-rock I catch. At one point I was a huge fan of Godspeed and others; they completely lost any appeal to me now. Same follows with progressive music -- apart from a few select albums, I couldn't give a shit about it anymore.

And you love the Zep...

You must understand, I get made fun of for my tastes outside of MB. I really don't run in to a lot of Radiohead fans, but almost everyone I talk to worships Zep. In fact last night I had a Pink Floyd shirt on and was at my buddy's place and one of his friends, unprovoked, looked at me and said Zeppelin is better. That's mostly what sparked my previous post. I don't dislike Zeppelin, I just can't listen to them on my own time.

For the record, I think both Radiohead and Pink Floyd are far better than Zeppelin.

Whitesnake were a credible blues rock band once before Coverdale went Hollywood.

I would say Motley Crue here but I was listening to a bootleg of them playing some small club in 1982 last week & it was awesome.

Agreed, from my experience Radiohead fans are way more annoying.

But most of my favorite artists are pretty mainstream and therefore have many annoying fans, I'm not gonna be bothered by that fact and just start listening to nothing but crappy obscure stoner metal like some people.

sweet_nothing 01-19-2009 02:24 PM

Uhhh
Led Zeppelin
Blink 182
Bright Eyes
Arctic Monkeys
Iron Maiden

Automatic Slim 01-19-2009 04:13 PM

1. AC/DC: I listened to them regularly until I was about 25 or so. After that, I guess got bored with their subject matter: women and partying. Nothing wrong with those things in and of themselves, however. :D

2. Ozzy: I still listen to him, but not as much as I used to. This was driven by the realization that he has a lot of great stuff, but some of the sappiest stuff, as well. :yikes:

3. Def Leppard: I listen to them sometimes, but their stuff is just too smooth and light.

4. Van Halen: I almost never listen to them now. Too much women and partying, like AC/DC.

5. ZZ Top: One of my favorite bands, but I have to be in the mood for them now, simply because I have played them to death over the past 20 years.

Decemberunderground is just as good as their other albums.

Same here, a lot of my favourite bands have fanbases I can't stand, people who love queen but have only heard Bohemian Rhapsody and Fat Bottomomed Girls. Aerosmith fans who only listen to their ballads, Billy Joel fans who only know We Didn't Start the Fire and Uptown Girl. Pink Floyd fans are even worse than Radiohead fans though, I mean come the fuck on, I don't care how groundbreaking the wall was, pretty much because it wasn't.

But the worst fan in the world is the Black Metal fan, now, not only the elitist black metal fan, but those who think that they are. Those who say they only listen to proper kvlt and then turn around and say they love Dimmu Borgir, and even (only sometimes) Cradle of Filth. Not even Death Metal fans are that bad.

And another thing about Black Metal fans, burning churches? So fucking 1990's stop talking about it, especially since the churches burned were beautiful! If I go into soulseek to find some album that has been bugging me, and decide to check out if there's any new black metal worth checking out. I usually go into the black metal chatroom, makes sense yeah?

EVERY FUCKING TIME I DO some french or british or whatever the hell guy PM's me and is all "you have a norwegian sounding name, thus must be an expert at burning churces; I need some advice, most of our churces are stone". At which point I make a note to self to never fucking listen to Black Metal again, problem is it has a draw on me so I never stick to it.

They are one of my favorite bands. You must be referring to Sacrament, where they pretty much changed their style completely. And I understand that, because that is their worst album. Wrath in Feb. will hopefully be alot better though. I've heard 3 songs from it already, and they all sound pretty kickass. But then again, I could be wrong, so please enlighten me.

jackhammer 01-20-2009 03:51 AM

I have seemed to have gone full circle. My teen years were mainly dominated by Metal and from the mid 90's onwards I barely listened to any of it having discovered lot's of other genres but in the early 2000's I got back into it. For me it is probably an age thing as I am nearly 37 so I don't really feel that I have anything to lose by listening to bands from my youth. I don't need to impress anyone or extend my musical pallette, as it's stretched far enough!

In your teens after even just a few years your music tastes usually change so much that you distance yourself from music but who knows? you may come back to it.

XxRoycexX 01-20-2009 03:08 PM

I'd never go back to listening to limp bizkit LOL. I even thought back in the day "why do I even listen to this?" Sure they had some interesting elements when they came out. Though, I'd never go back listening to it.

Granted but I did'nt listen to the bands that were considered crap (by some) in my youth- Bon jovi, Europe, Guns and Roses etc so that makes me a little exempt!
