Metallica (pronounced /mɛˈtælɨkə/) is an American heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1981. Founded when drummer Lars Ulrich posted an advertisement in a local newspaper, Metallica's line up has primarily consisted of Ulrich, rhythm guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield and lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, while going through a number of bassists. Currently, the spot is held by Robert Trujillo.

Metallica's early releases included fast tempos, instrumentals, and aggressive musicianship that placed them as one of the "big four" of the thrash metal subgenre alongside Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax during the genre's development into a popular style.[1] The band earned a growing fan base in the underground music community and critical acclaim, with the 1986 release Master of Puppets described as one of the most influential and "heavy" thrash metal albums. The band achieved substantial commercial success with their self-titled fifth album (also known as The Black Album), which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. With this release the band expanded its musical direction resulting in an album that appealed to a more mainstream audience.

Most people on here slate those albums but I think "Load" is one of their best, a heavy sounding blues based hard rock album and due to its unpopularity can always be picked up cheap.........so get it. "Reload" though is basically just the weaker material that was left of Load, as the whole thing should have been originally released as a double album.

i like about only 1/3rd of "Load" and two songs off "Reload"

before spending that cash, I'd advise you to check the track list off both albums on wiki, stream them on youtube and then decide

or else just download or torrent like all of us reasonable folk

My thoughts on "Load" is is it terrible.... no, well... not as terrible as some make it out to be. People at that time were just wanting The Black Album 2. so when they did not get it... they were disappointed. But does that make it bad? yes and no...

On one hand, "Load" is a decent hard rock album, if compared to the what came before, yes, it is awful... but when viewed for what it is, it has some good songs, just don't go into it looking for thrash, you won't find it.

"Hero of the Day" is still a song I llike very much... But the issue with Load is... it is just too long and not enough variety to it to give it a good review, it is good in parts, not so good in others. It was really boring and the songwriting mos of the time just didn't cut it.

I like "Load" in part, it is alright, nothing special by any means, not essential, but a good attempt at trying something new, and not just doing a follow up to an album that they knew they could not.

"Re-Load" however, can go and die. No time for that one. I would give that one a 1.5/5 and "Load" a 2.5/5.

@ Il Duce: I wish I could just torrent it, but I have to have the physical album and artwork. It's just part of the whole experience you know? Makes me feel like I'm part of something.

Well, judging from the responses, it sounds like I should get their first 3 albums first, the only reason I don't own them already is because they're so damn expensive for a CD for whatever reason.
