Looking for some sludgy and off kilter metal, can anyone help me out? I also like my metal with a fuzzy and/or atmospheric bent if anyone has any good recs in that area (I'm thinking bob and Jansz know what I'm looking for?)

Unearthly Trance are definitely sludgey, fuzzy, atmospheric, and while your definition of off-kilter is likely more extreme than mine, I think they qualify. Not unlike new Celtic Frost, though earlier on they were more of a blackened sludge band.

Newer...

Blackier...

Oh and I don't know that this band has anything to do with what you're looking for, but Gnaw Their Tongues might tickle your fancy. They're a black metal band that sounds more like an experimental noise band these days and they're atmospheric as ****. Unsettling stuff.

Looking for something with that 'epic build up'...heavy, melodic, clean sung. Maybe more underground, not so much of that commercial influence.

@Batlord thanks for those recs, Unearthly Trance is pretty great. Already a big fan if Gnaw Their Tongues, they've an awesome approach.

If you're unfamiliar with the Philadelphia band Rosetta I'd recommend checking them out. Not really sure if they are off kilter, but they do atmosphere quite well. In fact their first album was a double album with one album containing their metal tracks and another with more of an ambient electronic vibe. You were suppose to play both albums at the same time and they sync up to an incredibly dense album.

Coffinworm is another blackened sludge band that I don't know qualifies as off-kilter, but they are fantastic and totally atmospheric and nihilistic.

Nobody want to recommend me anything? Well now. This guy feels so alone.

Well you were pretty vague so we don't have any real idea what you're looking for.

Haha, well I'll try again.

I'm looking for something along the lines of say, an In Flames sound, more so derived from the sound the band has now, more melodic, largely clean sung. So I'm more or less asking for a Metal sound that has clean vocals, huge epic sound, moody, sort of dark in theme. That help? Never really been too great at describing the sound I have in my head haha.
