Nu metal with the brutality of death metal. Not too bad I must say.

Hi people ! I just joined this forum mainly because I'm looking for advice on what band/genre I should listen to.
I listen mostly to rock and metal, but I don't really enjoy most of the growling or non-clean vocals. Bands like elvenking are perfect for the kind of metal I like.

The thing is, I've been listening to power metal for a while now, but I find most of the popular bands dull and chessy (yeah blind guardian, talkin' about you) don't get me wrong, I like the genre a lot because of the energy and cool rhythms I hear, many of my favorite bands of all time are power metal bands, but only a few actually stand out for me (Sonata Arctica, Helloween, Angra, Edguy, Avantasia, Dark Moor, Elvenking)

I think I have to stop searching in the power metal realm, but I do believe that I can find more worthy bands to listen to.

Some examples of the styles I love are
Sonata Arctica - Deathaura (great energy, really cool storytelling, feels like the opera. Also energetic and beautiful)
Angra- The Shadow Hunter (Brilliant complex storytelling, the progressive style is gorgeous as well, really like that intro)
Helloween - The King for a Thousand Years (complex song, exciting all throughout and again, complex lyrics and story)
These are the type of songs I'm looking for in power metal, but I'll continue.

I've been listening more to progressive metal and rock, bands like Symphony X, Riverside, Dream Theater, Ayreon Angra is also progressive, another reason to love them. The thing about progressive metal is the songs sometimes get too technical for me, who isn't really a musician to understand all the instruments and music more in depth.

To summarize, there is one band that will always have everything I look for, and it is Mago de Oz. It's a spanish band, but it has all the features I adore, complex lyrics, good sounding, complex songs that sound awesome. Just listen to the album Jesus de Chambeli and see what I'm talking about.

Thanks for reading hope I'm posting this in the right place :P

Oh and one last question, what genre would you say this song is? (youtube)

After being a big fan in my late teens and afterwards spending years thinking the genre was lame and ridiculous, I've been getting into Black Metal again lately.
I've always enjoyed Burzum's "Filosofem" and "Hvis Lyset Tar Oss" and I'm looking for some other BM in the vein. I like a nice raw sound, a hypnotic quality, some tasteful keyboards can be a nice addition, but are not necessary, and I like my vocals really ****ed up and passionate.
I also enjoyed listening to Nyktalgia, Weakling and early Ulver the last few days.
Does anyone have any recommendations?

I've checked out quite a bit today, mostly superficially clicking through some tracks of highly rated albums.
Some other artists that seem cool upon first listen:
Darkspace, Gris, Passage D'Hiver, Blut Aus Nord (thanks, Batlord)
