Examples would be bands like Five Finger Death Punch.

I do find it pretty easy to listen to most of that music though, and if that's the gate to some deeper cuts and more interesting stuff, then I'm fine with it. I will say that some of the technical musicianship and unique sounds that are in metal are what are getting me to try it.

As a starting point I just bought Periphery's Juggernaut Alpha Album. I'm kind of addicted to the track MK Ultra.

Do you wanna listen to more metalcore? I've got way many bands who are not the kind of bull**** melodic metalcore your friend probably listens to (metalcore is a varied genre with more sounds than 95% of people are aware of).

I could also give you plenty of thrash, death, black, power, doom, stoner, sludge, etc metal. Just tell me if you want to continue on the path your friend has set you or if you want to explore... everything.

Haven't given FFDP that much of a listen past the radio singles, but I understand their first two albums are indeed melodic metalcore, but then their vocalist had to have surgery and lost the ability to scream, and so they had to switch to what you hear on the radio.

Check out Bring Me The Horizon, Asking Alexandria, Suicide Silence, and Zao.
Ignore all of this but Zao, cause Zao are amazing. Suicide Silence are ass, Bring Me the Horizon are not for people with taste (though I do like some of their ****), and I don't know about Asking Alexandria but I haven't heard anything about them that made me think they were worth listening to. But Zao are gods.

Nah. I'd say they're groove metal with alternative metal sound. And the new stuff is more hard rock with alt metal. Though he still does the "scream". He just doesn't do it as often.

**** me I was thinking about Avenged Sevenfold for some reason, but yeah FFDP are not metalcore at all. They're just groove metal with aspects of melodic metalcore meant to appeal to that fanbase.

Lol. I'd agree with that. I was thinking I don't remember a surgery. But I didn't care enough to check that. Lol.

Good thinking. Why would you care enough about either band to research them?

I'd be interested in hearing the range of what metal has to offer. After diving a little bit deeper I'm already finding it's pretty diverse. I really liked Zao, was amused to read that they started off as a Christian metal band.

Coming into this I already have some taste for Hardcore Punk, and I can kind of hear the fusion and am finding it appealing in that sense. I recognize Bring Me the Horizon as one of the bands my friend listens to, and I like quite a few of the songs that I've heard of them too.

Also read someone somewhere on here recommended a band called "Enslaved", which I really like.

Enslaved rule.

Well there's traditional heavy metal, such as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. That leads into thrash, such as early Metallica and Slayer. I assume I don't have to post examples of those.

Then we have extreme metal such as black metal, death metal, grindcore, and certain bands in other genres.

Black Metal

Death Metal

Grindcore

On the more melodic side we have power metal.

Slowing things down with doom metal, a genre of largely Sabbath worship, closely related to stoner and sludge metal. Stoner metal being... like, fuzzed out doom... and ****... don't worry about it since the two genres are so closely linked it can be hard to tell the difference for anyone at times. Sludge metal is sort of like both the above genres but with a heavy hardcore punk influence.

Doom Metal

Stoner Metal

Sludge Metal

Plenty of other kinds of metal out there, but those are some of the biggies and will give you a good start.

You know Batty, if you actually applied yourself you could probably make something of your metal knowledge. You lazy ****er.
