Screw UFO /QUOTE]

U ...but this might be a generational thing, I don't know. This was a big time hard rock band in the 70s. Big influence on Eddie Van Halen, he even tried joining them, during one of the times Michael Schenker went AWOL. I got a whole lotta of luv for "Force It", "Lights Out", "Obsession" and "Strangers in the Night".

I used to like them. Not that I don't anymore, but I haven't paid them any attention after a sucky live performance that I saw. They've got some good singles ("Blurry," "She F*cking Hates Me," "Control," etc.). They're singer sounds similar to Kurt Cobain, which was their initial selling point lol.

For my time and money, there are tons of better metal bands out there. But to each their own. Throw some of those recommendation to SoundgardenRocks!

Stay away from all that commercialised post-grunge tripe is all I can say. They're just a bunch of guys that thought they could sell records and make money by sounding like Nirvana.

Another thing, between AC/DC's Highway To Hell, Let There Be Rock, and Powerage, what is the best? Or should I just say screw it and get them all?

Also, should I definitely pick up Hendrix's Axis album? (Only hendrix studio album I don't have)

So I was wondering if you guys recommend anything from these bands (or if they are worth getting into)...

UFO

Godsmack

Death Cab For Cutie

Bright Eyes

Shinedown

The Eagles

Coheed and Cambria

Death Cab For Cutie - I'm quite partial to Plans

The Eagles - the only album I like is On the Border, otherwise I'll stick to the singles

the rest I haven't heard yet

I thought he'd be reading this, but ok...SoundGR's, this is directed at you. This is going to be an unpopular music opinion, but the first three Eagles records were classic. What's often over-looked is that the Eagles knew how to lay-down a dirty distorted guitar lick before Joe Walsh arrived. Leadon and Frey were fine understated guitar player and when they added Don Felder for "On the Boarder", they added a nasty slide player as well. To top it off, they had great 4-part harmonies, in the same league as the Beach Boys and CSNY, (though admittedly not as good). So they had a nice guitar dominated sound with first class harmonies, with nice touches of banjo and pedal steel here and there, countrified the rock music, unlike the Flying Burrito Bros, which to my ears is country music. I'd rank the 1st three 1)Desperado, 2)S/T, 3) On the Boarder.

Do you guys think any Green Day album is worth buying?

BastardofYoung 07-15-2011 05:46 PM

"Dookie" is a fun pop punk pop record, not matter what anybody says about them now, that album is still a classic. "Insomniac" was a good follow up.

I also have a liking for "Kerplunk!".

I'd go with "Dookie" and "American Idiot." The rest I'd just get the singles from.
