I`m the same as Il Duce in that I`ve been weaned on a lot of complex stuff, grew up listening to 1970s prog-rock, krautrock and that fucked up sounding 1960s weird experimental stuff:laughing:

Getting into Gorguts was pretty easy, what is most impressive about that Gorguts album is the sheer intensity and technical aspect that the band were able to put out on a death metal album........I doubt they or anybody will ever match that for a long time.

I still like Gorguts and am impressed by the whole band's talent, but if you're gonna be bizarre, go all-out like Unexpect.

Beherit: black metal from Finland, early 90s. No keyboards, no jazz fusion, no folk, no clean vocals, no darkthrone worship, no wanking.... just black metal.

I had never heard of Unexpect until I read this post, but looked them up and am intrigued. What would you say is their best album?

I would suggest their newest release, Fables of the Sleepless Empire, it was an album that really surprised me when I got around to listening to it earlier in the year.

Though I haven't heard their newest release, also check out In A Flesh Aquarium. Great avant-garde stuff.

Modern day uplifting, inspirational songs

I'm looking for rock songs, modern day (2000's) that have an uplifting message and overall inspirational feel. Songs that are about overcoming, succeeding, making it through life, becoming an new person etc. I've listened to rap my whole life so other than what I've found online I don't know too many. Here are a few obvious examples but there just to give you an idea.

- Switchfoot - Dare You to Move
- Switchfoot - Meant To Live
- P.O.D. - Alive
- Skillet - Awake and Alive
