Anyways, I really enjoy the Metal Albums Wars thread and really enjoyed the Extremism Before 1992 thread courtesy of Hip Hop Bunny. Basically I just like it when the community pools in all their thoughts to rank and discuss a topic. What spurred me to make this suggestion was that the metal forum (outside of the album wars thread) seems to be a little lethargic as of late. I find that when the community comes together, some really stimulating conversation results. I'd be happy to take the initiative and set something up if you guys would let me know what kind of community participation thing you'd like to be a part of.

This sounds cool, an actual metal community thread where maybe a different metal topic could be discussed each week. It could be a genre type, a question, an in depth discussion about of a band or album etc.........All these things really need, are a least half a dozen contributors to really take off. When you look at the posters who post on here, there is actually a huge amount of metal knowledge but nearly everybody has some real holes in that metal knowledge as well and this would make a specific metal discussion thread really appealing.

You came up with the idea, so I reckon you should start the actual thread outside of the recommendations thread:D

i suppose we could do something similar to the albums discussion thread

we nominate a sub-genre or concept

then nominate an album

then discuss - either of you can provide some pointers for discussion - i'd participate as well

I'd be down. The metal community on here seems like the runt of the forum. This sounds like a good open ended idea to get us a little organized.

I'll throw the thread together here probably by Sunday. I have school to attend to which is keeping me pretty busy, but expect something here pretty soon.

Aside from Absurd, does anyone know any bands that combine Oi! with metal? It seems like it'd be a rather obvious combination, but I'm drawing a blank here.

Sorry about the delay for the metal community thread but I've just been super busy as of late. Just know that it will come soon, maybe as soon as tmrw. I appreciate the patience urge the metal faithful to just take solace in the fact that there will soon be a haven for all things metal.

They're closer to post-rock/post-metal these days rather than black metal but still retain some BM traits.

Shoegaze bands use distortion too you know. Wouldn't say Alcest are pure shoegaze though.

still fucking shoegaze

Some Recs

Here is some Japanese Metal mixed with electronic stuff. It's pretty decent.

This more straightforward heavy metal mixed with some Thrash.

And some straight up Thrash

If I may, I'd like to recommend a metal album too, I am going with... Surprise surprise, doom metal.
The band I am talking about is called KYPCK. They come from Finland and they're relatively new (They have two albums) They're Russian themed and their singer sings in Russian language. Specially their first album Черно - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia is awesome in my opinion, I remember when my friend borrowed it to me, I listened to it everyday for about 8 days in row (That's very rare for me to get that addicted to an album)

So here's a little taste off the first album (Cherno)

KYPCK - Christmas in Murmansk - YouTube

I really cannot disagree with the top comment saying that the whole album is devastating. The sound combined with the vocals totally bring Russia to my mind.
