Grails

I just think that whatever atmosphere they were conjuring in those songs couldn't have been captured any better. Or if they could, I can't really imagine it.

Welll, they were certainly going for something dark. Have you listened to the rest of their discography? Though Doomsdayer's Holiday seems to be the band's pivotal peak, their earlier albums birthed an even greater appreciation for Doomsdayer's, in my opinion. There's something ... Almost necessary about experiencing the band in its entirety if you're into one album that much. Some of the stuff, like mojopinuk said in the earlier posts, drown out to become background music, but I find this true only when I put it on so that it becomes background music. There have been plenty of times I've put them on to really listen to them and it's brilliant ****. Even when listening to an album or song of Grails' for the first time, a sense of familiarity sinks in and maybe it's about comfort of feeling something familiar. Whatever it is, I'm there.

I'm glad you like them. Gave the Grails album a re-run through a while back and I really should listen to it more. Damn good album. I'm sure you would like Grayceon too. This Grand Show is a phenomenal album.

I've only tried Burning Off Impurities, and I seem to only enjoy it if I'm going to sleep. I don't dislike it, I just haven't found anything special in it.

Engine, I'm still not quite sure what their style is ... I like that, though. I like it when I can't place a band in a genre. At times, I feel like genres ruin the process of making music. Sure there are beneficial aspects of it, but doesn't it just seem limiting?

sidewinder, I don't know what it is, but I feel like everyone on here always downloads Burning off Impurities first and it kind of just trails off from there. Though I'm quite fond of Black Tar Prophecies Vol. 1, 2, 3, this is all I've upped at the moment.

Style is different from genre. I just meant dark, instrumental rock music. The point is that I don't know of any instrumental rock band that is making music right now that I like more than Grails.

O yea. I have to be in a very droney mood though. But I'm a huge fan of Greg Anderson in general.
It's not instrumental but my favorite band of his is a 90s relic called Engine Kid..

I listened to what you posted and exploring a little bit via youtube. I've been kind of sucked into the instrumental music lately, and this doesn't sound bad to me, but it might take a few more listens. It seems Anderson did a number of albums with Engine Kid.
