The entire third album is clean, and he swears maybe five times on the fourth. You may have listened to Slipknot, but not very well.

I like music that has a deeper message behind it but I don't see anything wrong with music which just expresses raw anger, the kind which steals your whole body and blinds you. It is not righteous it is irrational and beyond words or reason.

FFUUUUUUUUUUUCK! just about sums it up. Better to scream it down a mic for a mosh pit of mutual rage-o-holics than actually go out and start causing real trouble only perpetuating the feelings.

And even though I do like music which 'stands for something' I cant help feel it is a bit pretentious and pointless. If a person really stands for something they should be out there doing something about it rather than writing songs about it, although music can be a useful medium for spreading messages and getting people on your side. I still love system of a down, though I'm more selective about songs now and don't listen to them so often, and when I first listened to them I was attracted to some of their political and social messages. Now I just listen to each song for the sound I enjoy. I feel the messages in the songs but I dont actually care enough to do anything so I dont pretend to care at all now.
I love the music plain and simple. When I'm stressed or angry, energetic or just plain wasted its what I want to hear and I don't want a 'meaning' imposed on me unless its something I care about particularly. Sometimes I do enjoy exploring meanings however.
What kind of things do Otep sing about, I've never heard them before?

I have heard them before. If I remember correctly they have kind of an industrial sound, like a beefed up version of Orgy (Orgy's first two albums only. The third is...well...don't listen to it)

If you compare the best of nu-metal and the best of metalcore...imo metalcore wins. It just has more to offer in terms of technicality and overall diversity. Both are over saturated and I would say that hardcore influenced metal at its worst is worse than the worst nu-metal had to offer if that makes any sense.

Well back when i was like 12 all those bands were cool as hell and I loved them. Now the only one that I'll listen to shamelessly would be system of a down because they're actually a pretty valid band and just sort of got lumped in with the rest. Slipknot is ok, but mostly just for nostalgic purposes.
