It's called being open-minded. =)

I've recently gotten into nu metal, and started appreciating it for what it is, just angry and fun heavy pop metal/hard rock that has nice beats and good lyrics, but I also love thrash metal bands like Overkill, Exodus, Vio-Lence, Artillery, Megadeth, etc., and even groove metal which pretty much bridges the gap between thrash and nu metal.

In Flames used to be very good and Dark Tranquillity have remained consistently good.

I didn`t say Disturbed were not metal, just that they are a poor excuse for metal. They are like a watered down alcoholic drink, so that kids can drink it. Linkin Park are equally bad, the point I was making, is that its sad when these bands are seen as being representative of metal especially when the genre has somewhere in the region of 20-30 different sub-genres.

The main turn off was the singing and the singing is probably the dominant aspect of the group. As you said on another thread, music is subjective and so is my opinion here.

I do find if strange, that somebody that has shown an appreciation of a unique band like Voivod on another thread, also finds a band like Disturbed to be talented and interesting!!!
I guess it just means that I have a different and broader range of tastes. Maybe the fact that I can appreciate two completely different bands shows that I can view and appreciate metal as a whole. Maybe I just have more fun with the music I listen to. I agree with you in that Disturbed shouldn't represent metal (by no means), but then again what can a band do besides represent its respective sub genre? And please for the love of God stay away from Nickelback lol

Devildriver and Five Finger Death Punch are just inferior to Lamb of God and are just not in the same league.

Soilwork are one of the weaker Swedish melodic death metal bands around

Slipknot I don`t mind at all.

If there are any albums by these bands, that you really feel I should listen to........point them out.
An Ocean Between Us & The Powerless Rise by As I Lay Dying are my two favorite albums by them, but if you aren't a fan of metalcore- I doubt these records will change your mind. Might be worth your while though. On the other hand, If you haven't heard Killswitch's first release Alive or Just Breathing, I strongly recommend you do. Just might make a fan out of you...or not ha.

Alive or Just Breathing didn't work on hip hop bunny though...but then again it is new and has good production values so...

The two albums by As I Lay Dying, I`ll add them to my playlist today and see what I think. As always I`ll be objective

Probably the only album I still enjoy as much now as back when it was new is "White Pony" by Deftones, I still find that album to be brilliant. Apart from that I have lost interest in the style, apart from a few things here and there. "L.D. 50" by Mudvayne is not bad either, some of the lyrics are just lame to me now, but in terms of craft and musicianship, I think it has some strong moments in it.

Default Nu metal....what a joke!

You know, just because you turn the gain on a Marshall amp to ten, tune the top E string on you guitar to a D and sound all pissed off ( but mostly whiney)
does not make you a metal band!!!! No matter what sub name you give it!!! There is far more to being a metal band than sound, it is something you love, and flows in your veins!!! Not lets do this be on Mtv, and get rich quick. It's why people still pack it in to see a Iron Maiden show, and you bums are the has beens playing some state fair!!!

Definitely a good album, particularly "The Blister Exists" and "Three Nil". I also really like "Circle".
