Holy ****ing god!!!! I can barely make myself heard at a concert and this guy can compete with the guitars?!?! This man is god! And the dedication. He was obviously about to pass out, but he never stopped. That deserves some kind of ****ing award, seriously.

Pig Destroyer is a great band, probably my favorite from Scott Hull... though I do like Agoraphobic Nosebleed as well, "Frozen Corpse Stuffed with Dope" is an amazing album, which has been called "The Paul's Boutique" of Grindcore". "Altered States of America" is also cool, "Honky Reduction" was the first I heard from them and also enjoy.

Another band that I have not seen mentioned yet (though have not looked at early posts) is Brutal Truth, "Need to Control" is a must hear album for the newcomer.

oh, and I suggest this album as well:

and another project with John Zorn:

Guts of a Virgin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

both of these are just insane records, jazzy grindcore.

Mondo Bungle 06-04-2011 02:56 PM

Naked City's s/t will always be my top John Zorn album.
And does anyone like Flesh Parade? Kill Whitey is a classic among grind.

BastardofYoung 06-04-2011 03:03 PM

That album is brilliant. I would advise that one be listed to as well. Though bearing the Naked City name, the first album was release under only John Zorn. Great album, I picked "Torture Garden" as first for Grindcore fans since it is just the short noisy stuff, which would probably be more interesting to them first. The first album, has many of the songs on it, plus the jazz numbers as well.. It is a diverse peice of work.. it is like Grindcore/Surf Rock/Noise/Jazz experimentation, great stuff... probably my favorite off of it would be:

and, this is where my last.fm name came from:

Mondo Bungle 06-04-2011 03:17 PM

Yep that album kicks ass.
I've been listening to alot of Jon Chang stuff lately, especially GridLink. Anyone like them, Discordance Axis, or Hayaino Daisuki?

BastardofYoung 06-04-2011 03:27 PM

Naked City is great, anything with both John Zorn and Yamantaka Eye in one place is amazing to me. Yamantaka Eye is a lunatic, especially in the days of Hanatarash, the famous Harsh Noise project... The Boredoms also had their moments.

for those not familiar with Hanatarash though.... holy hell it is a freak show.

his most nitorious of acts though would probably be the famous bulldozer incident, where he drove it into the back door a club in Tokyo and onto the stage... no video exsists, but this slideshow shows it pretty well.

Discordance Axis are ok, Jouhou & The Inalienable Dreamless are quality. I guess I prefer these releases over earlier material as the riffs seem to have a general direction, whereas earlier recordings it just seems random.

I haven't listened to his non-Discordance Axis work. I've been working my way backwards through metal for the last few years.

"Altered States of America" may be cool but it's self-indulgent; not from a listeners perspective, but the musicians creating it. The only times I've enjoyed popping that album in is when I want to **** with people.

Cybergrind, really, is one of the most self-indulgent genres there is. The general quality of the genre is actually lower than bedroom black metal. Really, when Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Prosthetic ****, & Libido Airbag are the standard bearers of your genre.... there are problems.

Nemo are good. If anyone had the lowdown on some Nemo I'd be much appreciative.

BastardofYoung 06-04-2011 05:21 PM

I remember first thing I heard from Pig Destroyer though, was this.... covering Helmet. "Painter of Dead Girls" is the album.

Probably one of the weakest releases of theirs, but holds some memory for me. This sounds more like Helmet as seen through the eyes of Today is the Day to me.

"Reek of Putrefaction" is just alright, "Symphonies of Sickness" is way better.

Just go with:

Terrorizer - World Downfall
Repuslion - Horrified
Napalm Death - From Enslavement to Obliteration
Assuck - Misery Index
Brutal Truth - Extreme Conditions Demand Extreme Responses

for a good introduction.

I didn't even know that we had a thread for grindcore until I found it just now. It's quite funny since I just came home from my friend's grindcore bands gig. Check them out if you want to.

Assuck are fun to listen to, and while the share the common failure of many grindcore bands (elitist music with egalitarian posturing), they push it to such an extreme that it's cringe inducing. Example:

Quote:

The clowns are now the ringmasters backed with the arsenal of the economy. Our ears are plugged when we speak the tongue of reality. Failure to accept the truths, we speak of peace but push civilization to the edge. We can't build harmony on apathy and can't live on dreams alone. I pledge allegiance to the symbol of power and greed. It stands for a false republic under the guidance of a question mark god. Raping some, stealing from others. Fighting to scale the class ladder that splinters so many hands. Uncivilized. I'd rather close my eyes.
Grindcore can deal with political themes, but it is most effective doing so when it does through allegory.

Just recently got the new Rotten Sound album, definitely recommend that to any fan of the genre

There's this band, Dead Words, it's a single man who create music with his computer. I think his goal is to create noisy songs that parodies grindcore. I think it's kinda funny, just tell me what you think :
