Yeah, I like Helvete a lot. Shift ain't too shabby either.

You ever check out the Belgian band Leng Tch'e? I can't exactly put my finger on why I like them so much but their album Process of Elimination has definitely been one of my most listened to grindcore albums over the past year.

Sneer 12-10-2011 02:59 PM

Yeah I seriously dig Process of Elimination, blows your socks off.

Graf Orlock are great too.

The sample's superb

Janszoon 12-10-2011 03:05 PM

I like! Definitely more on the punky side of grindcore. Cool stuff.

The sample cracked me up so much I googled it and it turns out it's from Bad Boys II. I can't decide if that make me like it less or like it more.

Salami 12-10-2011 03:07 PM

Not sure if it counts as grindcore, but I've been listening to some Agoraphobic Nosebleed today:

^Great band and great album right there.

Salami 12-10-2011 03:10 PM

I believe Jackhammer likes them?

Very intense album. I'm enjoying it, oddly enough!

Have you listened to any of their other albums?

Salami 12-10-2011 03:16 PM

Yes:

Altered States of America.

Incredible. 100 songs, most of them about 3 seconds. Takes only ten minutes to hear the whole thing!!!

Alfred 12-10-2011 03:31 PM

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Altered States Of America is the heaviest album I've ever heard. I still need to hear Agorapocalypse. That song is pretty mighty.

Beats all the others I've heard!

For a full album listen, Altered States takes the goddamn cake over almost anything else out there. For single tracks through, Frozen Corpse Stuffed with Dope is equally awesome.

Repulsion's Horrified is quite good

hip hop bunny hop 12-15-2011 08:45 PM

I like Horrified a lot, in fact I'd say it's not only my favorite grindcore album but my favorite metal album of all time - but what do you enjoy about it?

Phantom Limb 12-15-2011 08:54 PM

So what exactly makes grindcore grindcore?

it's concise, brutal and has quite a lot of hardcore punk elements

Blastbeats, extremely short songs, fast tempos, abruptly shifting song structures, and lineage that's one part metal, one part hardcore.

Example:

i don't even know if they're "grindcore" but Hayaino Daisuki's first few EPs are quite good as well

I wouldn't call them grindcore but I do like the two EPs I have by them.

Dark Legions Archive defines Grindcore as:

Quote:

A further evolution of the sound hardcore punk created and thrash developed, grindcore slams together abrasive riffs in order to achieve a release from intensity at the end of each song. Its name comes from that grinding, caused by fast alternation between chromatic notes and the contrast with rigid whole note patterns that lift the listener up from the directionless thrashing. Where purest, grindcore celebrates individual life and rejects social mores by reminding us that we are mortal, frail and the clock is ticking, so we need to cast aside the pointless and frustrating (grinding) in life and replace it with open spaces of our own imaginations.
Which is what I'd basically agree with. It's a derivative of rock 'n roll which uses "noise" segments to emphasize fleeting moments of monorhythm and/or melody.
