In my opinion you shouldn't download their albums, instead make the extra effort to buy them! That's the true way to really appreciate their music and art!

I'm going a bit slow with Tool, it's just cause I got a lot of bands to listen to.

Opiate:
the first five are just average. I didn't get into them, enjoyable, but didn't catch my attention. As for Opiate (the track), it took me some time to sink into, but at the third minute I began to really like it. And the lyrics are pretty good too.
Tho my favorite of that EP is the hidden track "The Gaping Lotus Experience", which I loved! the flaw in it is that it's too short, I never listen to it without felling I have to listen to it again.

Undertow:
Much better than the EP, it's obvious that the studio album was professionally made. I actually liked every song. Still haven't listened to them much to feel which are my favorites.
> For now it's "Sober", "Disgustipated"

Still haven't listened to any song with Chancellor on base yet. I'm assuming it's gonna be much better than what I've listened for now, as felt like in a way the base was lacking in the EP and the album. And from what you've been talking in this thread, you all seem to agree on the greatness of Chancellor.

Will be filling you up soon ...
Just to let you know Paul D'Amour was on the EP and "Undertow," but bass playing by Chancellor would become extremly pivotal in their following three albums and he gets very creative. PS: Listen to 46&2 ASAP, one of the best Basslines EVER!

Hello everybody,
I don't know music of Tool so much but I would like to try to listen to something. Maybe one album and than I will see.
I see in poll the winner was album AEnima. Should I try this one for first listening or something else?
Thank you for recommendations

Aenima would be a fine place to start, but there are enough differences between their albums that you might want to listen to more than one. If you like Aenima, definitely give Lateralus or 10,000 Days a listen as well.

And Undertow! Why does everyone always ignore that album.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

Undertow's a damn fine album, not where I'd point a beginner though. I listened to Tool's discography in reverse order and I'm glad I did.

But yes, Undertow is definitely awesome and definitely does get overlooked

Personally I think the demo is one of the finest releases, but if i was going for an album I would go with Undertow, then progress chronologically from there. It is not as if they have 10's of albums in their catalogue...

No one should overlook Undertow, I agree with you guys! Darn fine recording even if I do say so myself!
