Surprised you think that about Vince Neil`s voice, as I think his voice is perfectly suited to this type of sleazy, trashy glam metal style.

As for his writing ability, he seems to average about 25% contribution on each album so far.

As far as I know, Nikki writes alll lyrics. I think Vince's name is there is for song arrangements and such. Reading THE DIRT & Nikki's Heroin Diaries, it seems that Nikki does ALL writing.

I guess you haven't seen any videos of Motley live.

For example, at 1:00. He sounds absolutely awful. And its like this every show I've seen.

Lets just say, I heard far worse than that live. Given the massive drug intake of the band, having bad shows would hardly be a surprise. The same could be said for Megadeth.

i like them a lot, it's feel good rock n roll and doesn't have any mainstream pansiness to it

i do agree that they had a more unique package and did their own thing unlike many of the bands in their genre at the time. i really respect them.

As a hair metal singles band, they were the best. They knew how to produce a tight and heavy melodic metal song, like few bands could. I love to shuttle through 10-12 songs like Dr. Feel Good, Shout at the Devil, Kick Start My Heart etc. Album wise I'd rank them close to the top...Pyromania > Cinderella -Night Songs > Ratt - Out of the Cellar > Skid Row - ST > Shout at the Devil.

After listening to their third album Theatre of Pain, I have to agree with the above, The album is very different to the first two with its more noticeble guitar riffs by Mick Mars, commercial sheen and has a much more cleaner metal sound to it and is better produced than the first two, a thing producer Tom Werman is known for anyway.

I`m actually looking forward to their next two and best know Girls, Girls, Girls and Dr.Feelgood.

I find Mick Mars gets better with time and his best stuff comes in Dr. Feelgood and Girls, Girls, Girls.

'Shout At The Devil' scared the shit out of me when it came out and it still has a place in my heart today. Urban's right about there being just enough punk attitude to keep it (and previous album) from being standard arena-friendly hair metal. It is close though.
