I don't ONLY listen to metal, I try to listen to a variety of genres, but I find that I just CANNOT enjoy listening to any alternative stuff. Most of it doesn't have any sort of melody, some of it has swearing in it, and it makes a mockery of what music SHOULD be. Put frankly,I listen to MUSIC, not NOISE.

Lol, I used to listen to Radio Hauraki at work but it seems farcical nowadays. It's like they can't decide whether to play classic rock or whether to try to appeal to the younger gen by peppering their playlist with Greenday, Foo Fighters and grunge songs.

I swear that if you switch it on randomly there's a 50% chance they'll be playing AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, U2 or that godforsaken Black Betty song (I'll ram nails into my ears if I hear that again). And hasn't anyone told them that PF have songs other than Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb, Hey You, Another Brick in the Wall and Money?

Point taken. I guess when it really boils down to it, it's what the DEEJAY LIKES that ends up getting played on the radio. I remember one chick on an FM radio station a number of years ago, and about half the songs she spun were by Simply Red (you know, that Hucknell guy). Simply Red this, Simply Red that. ENOUGH ALREADY!! Chocka-block full of Simply Red. Christ.

Not even. Usually, it's what the DJ picks out of a list of 200 songs, given to him by some company that controlls a mega-chain of stations, like Cumulus.

Radio 1 Dj's get to pick 4 songs of their own choice during a 3 hour show.

And Radio 1 isn't even a commercial station.
