Just because the term "punk" wasn't coined yet doesn't mean any of those guys weren't punk. It's like saying a T-Rex wasnt a T-Rex because nobody was there to call it that. One thing is for certain, it was still what we know as a dinosaur, regardless of what we call it. And that's what people like link ray were, pre-historic punks that roamed the land before anyone was calling It "punk".

This is the first time i've seen a dinosaur and a music genre in the same sentence being used as a legitimate argument.

(And that excludes the mention of T-Rex or Marc Bolan)

Progressive rock wasn't called progressive rock in the 1970s. At that point in time, it was referred to as art rock. You make a valid argument.

As I said before... it is impossible to attribute just one person as being the sole creator of punk rock. It stemmed from many other musicians' efforts (The Stooges, The Velvet Underground, etc). With that being said, I definitely believe Link Wray had some influence over its inception due to the energy and grittiness of how he played the guitar....

Also, many people think Burroughs is the "Godfather of Punk"... I can't really disagree with that either.

influence he may have had on it, but he did not "invent" it. Which is my point. The use of "invented" here is dumb. If this thread was, who influence the creation of punk, I would say Link Wray is a contender, influence he may have had, but he did not invent the style in the slightest, his influence was in rockabilly, not in punk.

Well, you see... you sort of contradicted yourself in that last sentence. You claimed that Link Wray is a contender for being an influence on punk rock, but then you contradict yourself by saying "his influence was in rockabilly, not punk." Which is it?

You also contradicted yourself here:

And (kind of) here:

Now, let's find someone who was an actual punk, not just someone who got called one cause they had a similar attitude that would be part of punk.
As Tuna stated earlier... how can we hold your opinion over "some random critic's" when you (essentially) are on as well.

So... I can't really trust any of your arguments when you make all of these contradictions. Try to form a solid opinion...

EDIT: Now let it go and move on with your life.

People are always going to disagree upon certain things, and with the creation of punk being a murky area, there will definitely be a few.

what? which is it? His influence is IN rockabilly, rockabilly is not punk. that still stands.

Also I never claimed he was a contender in punk, just phrased bad i guess. Read it a few more times, will more than make sense.

Yeah, I contradicted myself saying Woodie Guthrie at first, forgot i said that, was probably drunk at the time.

And I am a random critic, you are a random critic, he is a random critic, she is a random critic. we are all random critics.... each one of us on this site.
