I'm referring to any bands of the hard rock and heavy metal genre from the mid 1970s to late 1980s period. And since this is about Ratt and glam metal related bands, most of these bands were inspired by Aerosmith.

If you don't like any of these bands, then I'll take back my original statement.

Hard Rock and Heavy Metal... Influenced by Aerosmith? You've got it backwards. I can understand if you like Aerosmith, but to try to claim that they were influential on every Hard Rock and Heavy Metal band is really reaching, and you know it. It's actually kind of insulting to all of the people who actually did progress the genres to that point, because it glosses right over them, as if "rock" didn't exist until Aerosmith started playing.

The fact is that Aerosmith did exactly what every other generic southern-rock band in the 70's did, sharing the same influences, and very few people cite them as a major influence. If Aerosmith hadn't existed, would the world of rock really have changed all that much? I challenge you to name one band that would have never been formed if they hadn't heard Aerosmith (and Aerosmith cover bands don't count, obviously).

#1 - Aerosmith is about as far removed from Southern Rock as any band I can think of. The fact that you keep referring to them that way really waters down your opinion of the band.

#2 - Tons of rockers from the mid to late 70s and after cite Aerosmith as influences.

Two thousand pounds of rockers must be right, then. Well, with so many, it surely must be a simple task to name just one significant rock band that wouldn't exist today if not for Aerosmith. Please prove me wrong, someone has to, or the bad guy wins. And that just won't do.

I was referring to bands of a genre style like those that have been mentioned in this thread. Well known artists like James Hetfield and Slash for example state how listening to Aeromsith got them into the business in the first place.

And as has been said I've got no idea why you keep referring to Aerosmith as southern rock.

To save going round in circles, who are some of your favourite bands or types of music?

I don't remember. But what I do know is that my favorite bands can beat up your favorite bands. By the way, I just got over a hundred posts! Thanks, guys, for all the support!

Now let me break something down. Aerosmith is rock. Steven Tyler (much like Bruce Springsteen *shudders*) often pretends to be a country singer. Thus, they would like to be country rock, also known as southern rock. Unless the definition changed again...

And I am pretty sure Hetfield and Slash would have become musicians if not for Aerosmith. Just because they liked them doesn't mean that they needed them. Both were practicing music before they'd ever even heard Aerosmith.

As long as you're admitting to trolling I'm out. Have a nice day.

What? Bad guys can have legitimate points, you know. Sauron had some very progressive tax reforms. But if you really think that every person who dislikes Aerosmith and has a sense of humor is a "troll", then I feel sorry for you; you're missing out. We're actually a decent bunch.
