Haha, isn't this thread about Glam Hair Metal?
Oh, and I like Nirvana infinitely more than Led Zeppelin, if that matters.

Hair Metal really is a bit of a joke. However you really can't place GNR in that category. And a guilty pleasure of mine is i enjoy motley crue, i know, that's pretty bad.

I think GNR fits well enough. They're a little different. Anyway, I like them and Motley Crue so I guess maybe I do understand glam/hair/metal

A pretty underrated hair metal band is Enuff Z'Nuff, though they're powerpop more than metal.

How exactly is it a joke? Becuase the bands make fun and catchy music, and sing about getting with girls and partying?

Yes, but generally 1 Led Zeppelin album has more depth than Nirvana's entire catalog. It doesn't make Nirvana a bad band in any way, shape, or form. However, Led Zeppelin were a very ambitious band. Maybe it's an issue of eclecticism over focus, but I feel that Nirvana songs tend to majorly lose their steam after repeated listens.

An excellent example is "Heart Shaped Box". It's a fantastic, and bizarre song at first listen, but after awhile you realize it basically sounds like the same 5-10 seconds of melody/vocals repeated over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over.

Terence Hill, as recently confirmed during an interview to an Italian TV talk-show, was offered the role but rejected it because he considered it "too violent". Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta declined the role for the same reason. When Al Pacino was considered for the role of John Rambo, he turned it down when his request that Rambo be more of a madman was rejected.

I wouldn`t of said that a Led Zeppelin album has more depth than a Nirvana album. Its just a matter of taste, Led Zeppelin pretty much mastered what hard rock was all about with their blues based sound, guitar riffs and touches of folk to add variety, no other hard rock group had sounded like them before.

Nirvana were pretty much a conglomeration of a whole load of sounds, which were poured out in Kurt Cobain`s own vision, this was a real achievement in itself.

Both groups whether people like them or not, will always be remembered as two of the defining rock groups of all time and imo two of the very best as well.

Was Lou Reed considered "glam" at one point? I like Roxy Music, but... that's the only "glam" thing I like (unless Lou Reed is considered glam).
