Definitely. It's always kinda amused me that on side it's the most insular, unevolving genre of metal out there, but then you've got the other side that is willing to do just about anything to the music.

Drudkh, Krallice, Fen, Thranenkind, Bathory, Altar of Plagues, Negura Bunget, Dolorian, Ruins of Beverast, Astrofaes, Hate Forest, Blood of Kingu,

Yeah, I'm so kvlt.

Oh yeah, and Üñhølÿ Çrücîfïxìn øf Sætåniç Vïrgîns and Vraaaaelishnicraschgodorvolm.

Some of my favorite black metal bands:

raw black metal -

Ildjarn-Nidhogg
Ildjarn- Nidhogg- Natt Og Tåke - YouTube

Havohej
Havohej - Final Hour of Christ - YouTube

Black Witchery
Black Witchery - Heretic Death Call - YouTube

Beherit
Beherit - The Oath Of Black Blood - YouTube

Archgoat

Ancestors
Ancestors - I - YouTube

punk/black metal -

Barbatos
Barbatos - Hot City Bitch - YouTube

Vomitor
Vomitor - Midnight Madness - YouTube

Midnight
Midnight - All Hail Hell - YouTube

The whole punk/black metal style seems to be more faithful to the roots of Hellhammer, Bathory, and Venom. Raw Black Metal is, to me, the most interesting of and stimulating of black metal subgenres.

Rocked*. He will be missed.

I used to be super into black metal, but I kind of fell out of the scene. Still love the stuff though.

Nargaroth has always been one of my favorites. Honestly every time I hear the phrase 'black metal' I almost instantly start hearing Black Metal Ist Krieg in my head.

Mondo Bungle 10-05-2011 04:07 PM

I typed 'Black metal ist krieg' in google translate, and it translated to 'Nargaroth.'

I've been meaning to watch a documentary called "Until the Light Takes Us" which is a documentary concerning the whole scene in Norway during the early 90's. Darkthrone's "Transylvanian Hunger" to me is old school black metal in a nutshell. Low production value, excessive tremolo picking, and indecipherable screeched vocals.

It is definitely worth a viewing. Very well put together and stands up well as a documentary in it's own right and not some self indulgent hastily put together fan film.
