Both are great albums, my personal preference is to Loveless

Where does Psychocandy stand in relation to shoegaze? A precursor? Proto-shoegaze?

psychocandy is definitely proto-shoegaze, very early on before the whole 90s wave of shoegaze bands and if you could put them side to side to a shoegaze band they would sound very similar.

What are some of the other precursors of shoegaze you see?

Obviously this is bound to be a bit subjective, and that's fine.

I too thought of SY and Cure due to the (occasional) use of guitar pedals... But then I haven't thought as deeply about shoegaze because I'm more of a postpunk obsessive

I love Cocteau Twins btw.

Btw there's a Cure track off Wish that's pure shoegaze and was clearly written in the wake of Loveless

i do definitely hear inspiration drawn from the whole shoegaze wave in the 90s, considering everyone was doing it at the time so robert mustve been interested in the new sound.

such a difficult question! I think both albums were significant but Loveless was so unique in itself it is def best option here imo

I'm voting on this one because I didn't vote on this one on my old account. I know because the gap between posts overlaps the time I was hear, so I wouldn't have seen this thread before.

I voted Loveless. Really, the songwriting's just much better on the whole. Some filler on Nevermind.
