It was very popular on radio stations and the clubs as well, in its day. Mostly during the Disco era. I personally never really cared for it myself. The Commodores had a lot of better material other than Machine Gun.

What are some of your favorite eras of rock music, and some of your favorite bands and artist?

(80's hard rock through pop obviously, as one could guess from the list)
Favorites include Def Leppard, The Cars, Journey, Bryan Adams (yeah, bite me), Genesis, Tears for Fears, U2, Collective Soul (best band to start in the 90's).

It's hard for me to picture any of them doing jams. Maybe Genesis, on the weird old stuff, but that would be more prog-rock than hard rock. I like ZZ Top, which probably jams live on the older material I don't like. My guess is that time constraints on music videos (production cost and air time) helped kill jams in recorded music.

I`ll admit I`m a bit lost what you`re really looking for here!! Jams are as the name suggests, band members jamming with their guitars or perhaps other instruments usually to extend songs on stage or add improvisation etc, this for obvious reasons can`t be done on their studio material or videos, unless its a recording of a live show.

Or are you talking about long instrumental sections that sound like a jam within a song such as riffs?

I guess I mean a slightly structured song that probably began as a jam.

The place to look is with rock groups such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Pearl Jam etc basically any group where the main guitarist was a dominant figure and the best place to start is with Hendrix.

The slightly structured song that you speak of is largely open to interpretation anyway and most rock groups have a history of creating a song out of a studio jam anyway.

Good call. I've seen live clips of Pearl *Jam* jamming in concert. I'm trying to find studio jam-based songs, though. Not sure Eddie Vedder is relaxed enough to put out a meandering 'fun' song. "Immortality" would be close, if not so downbeat.

Here is a popular single of its day that got a lot of air-play! Its classified Rock & Progressive Rock, but the versatility of this certain single incorporates the influence of various styles and genres.

There is something special about this Original Clip as the song is a little bit faster an therefore a little higher in pitch than on CD, LP or 7".
