Just take five minutes to listen to one song already. You won't regret it.

LOLPOCALYPSE 11-03-2011 11:58 AM

I really enjoyed both albums but I gotta give the edge to Kylesa. I love the sludgy riffs and the dual drumming adds an interesting dynamic. It is a really fun album. The Kvelertak one was great too. The hardcore side of things stuck out to me as well as the rock, more so than the black metal aspects (although some call it "black n' roll"). I'm not ga ga over the album as others seem to be though.

Kylesa 3

Kvelertak 5

I have no idea why people keep describing this album as so diverse, it has a fairly consistent sound from beginning to end. I gave it a second listen last night and liked it a lot more going into it with realistic expectations though. So my suggestion is listen expecting brootal cock rock rather than some kind of mind-blowing work of genre-smashing eclecticism and you'll probably enjoy it.

I agree. It was an original sound but not an entirely brand new one. And the album doesn't jump around all over the place musically. There is some genre bending within the songs but not between them, if that makes any sense. The tracks as a whole are focused and cohesive.

Unknown Soldier 11-04-2011 06:30 AM

If there are any more votes on this battle try place them asap, as I`ll be changing this battle over within the next 24 hours due to the amount of battles pending, currently stands as:

Kylesa 3
Kvelertak 5

Kvelertak win that battle 5-3. Next up is part 2 of The Batlord`s Florida scene death metal showdown, but this time the albums have been suggested by Bastard of Young. Again take a few lines explaining your choice and that Brutality album is a classic.

The Brutality album is a must a Florida classic, don`t know the other two yet either.

The Batlord 11-07-2011 10:19 AM

I will try to listen to them, but I'm on an old school black metal kick right now that is making me unimpressed by DM at the moment. I want to listen to those albums, but...Celtic Frost.

BastardofYoung 11-07-2011 10:51 AM

you tell me to nominate them and now you are turning back. fooker.

listen to them and vote dammit.

*sigh* If it will make you happy, yon peasant.

*turns off Necrovore, turns on Brutality*

Don't say I never did anything for you.

The Batlord 11-07-2011 12:16 PM

I think I gotta go with Brutality. They have a well developed sound that holds up against even most modern death metal bands. Their vocalist is brutal without having to resort to being entirely indecipherable. But I think the main reason I like them I'm not really too sure of yet. They just kind of have this cool, dynamic atmosphere about them that's hard to put my finger on. It's just kind of an understated malevolence.

Brutality - 1
Massacre - 0
Resurrection - 0

Unknown Soldier 11-07-2011 02:10 PM

The Massacre album is one of those solid death metal albums with good vocals and decent songs but I didn`t think it was anything special. I thought the Resurrection album more enjoyable of the two and especially liked the Vincent Price inspired spoken intros to most of the songs, but I`m guessing others may see that as kind of cheesy. The Brutality album though, just sticks out a mile from the quality of its singing, songs and instrumentation and its a genre classic.

Brutality 2
Massacre 0
Resurrection 0

Howard the Duck 11-07-2011 05:56 PM

i need to go to Court for a while

will give them a tinker after I've finished

Howard the Duck 11-09-2011 01:58 AM

Brutality:-

i quite like the diversity, although i wished they picked up on the "symphonic" angle with the synths, and the instrumental "Spirit World" is lush, but as a death metal album, it never really rises above "above average"

Massacre:-

this is more like it - too fast too furious, they wear their Slayer influences on their sleeves, and the vocals are fantastic, mine comes with the Inhuman Condition EP, which is equally as good - metalgasm

Resurrection:-

the spoken word intros are cheesy, but i like a band with a sense of humour, unfortunately, the guitar tone is a bit too "tinny" and detracts from the overall sound, i have a big problem with the miking of the drums as well - it just sounds like a total mess of beats

so:-

Brutality - 2
Massacre - 1
Resurrection - 0

Unknown Soldier 11-10-2011 09:18 AM

If you want to vote on this battle try and do so in the next 24hrs, as it will be changed over then. voting stands as follows:

Brutality 2
Massacre 1
Resurrection 0

The Batlord 11-10-2011 10:29 AM

Wait a minute. Didn't BastardofYoung bitch at me for almost not voting, and here he is, not voting ON HIS OWN battle? Bastard.

BastardofYoung 11-10-2011 10:48 AM

I have been working so much I have not even refreshed my mind of these albums.

I like to relisten to the albums before I vote, just to refresh... but have not been able to.

But I think from memory I have to go with "From Beyond"... Massacre was amazing, the album with the Inhuman Condition EP is an official discography, wish they made more. But great tone, plus the guitar work of one mr. Rick Rozz... who is a key figure in the style.

Brutality is also great to me, I added Resurrection knowing they wouldn't get any votes and it would be a battle betweem Brutality and Massacre.

But I will cast my vote to Massacre on this one.

Massacre - 2
Brutality - 2
Resurrection - 0

come on, somebody break the tie !

The Batlord 11-10-2011 10:52 AM

Massacre was pretty awesome, and the guitar tone was just sick, but I couldn't help but think of Death the whole time I was listening to them.

They should lose votes for plagiarism.

Rick Rozz played with Death on "Lepracy" so there is a Death connection.

King_Matt 11-10-2011 04:39 PM

Brutality for me. I loved the riffs a lot better than the other two. And I agree, the spoken sections of Resurrection were really cheesy and kinda killed it for me :(

Brutality - 3
Massacre - 2
Resurrection - 0

If you were a Vincent Price fan, I`m sure you`d feel differently.

but they cut and pasted in a way that was fresh and interesting - you can hear Slayer, Death and even Forced Entry in them

Unknown Soldier 11-11-2011 08:33 AM

Brutality win that battle 3-2-0. Next up courtesy of King Matt his first suggestion on here, is this 3 way folk-metal showdown, a genre that doesn`t get much of a mention on the metal threads. We`ve have albums from Norway and Sweden, and its about time we had some from Finland the third Scandinavian metal power.

LOLPOCALYPSE 11-11-2011 09:18 AM

Darn it I didn't cast my vote in time. I guess it's for the best, because I would have voted for Massacre and caused a tie. Not into folk metal so I probably won't vote this week either

I guessed that everybody who was going to vote had already voted. Just as well though, as we would`ve had another tie.
