Yeah, I await the results on this one. I think I have a feeling which way it will go, but I am surprised by results most of the time here.

I went into this liking Colored Sands a lot, and Gorguts in general a lot, and having never even heard of Ulcerate, and I have to say... I'm voting Vermis. I really, really like this album. I like my metal a little noisy and a little off-kilter and this album has those things in spades. They really have their own distinct take on death metal and I love it. Big fan of the fuzzy guitar. Big fan of the drumming. Big fan of the dry, claustrophobic production. I can already tell this album is going to get a lot of spins from me.

Ulcerate: 1
Gorguts: 0

Alright I'm in for this.

Ive already heard both of these albums. Both great albums. Both in my top 10 metal albums of 2013. But Vermis is probably the best death metal album of the decade so I have to go with that. Sorry Canada

Ulcerate: 2
Gorguts: 0

Wow, so far I am thinking that I am surprised by the results (as I said I usually am)

My original plan was actually to pit against the 2 bands most loved albums (Obscura vs Everything is Fire. I recommend you check that album out, amazing stuff. If you liked "Vermis" that much, that album is a no brainer for you to check out next).

Let me know what you think. It is regarded as their top shelf album still.

I gotta be straight up, I've always assumed I'd hate both these bands because the one or two songs I've heard from them were just godawful noise that sounded like people throwing guitars at drumsets then screaming about it. But this contest has seriously opened my eyes.

Firstly Ulcerate. And holy hell the perfect trinity of 'Confronting Entropy' to 'Fall to Opprobrium' to 'The Imperious Weak' was mindblowing! Easily my favorite portion of the Vermis album. Overall just really loved the last half of it though, not hectic as **** but has plenty of dirty darkness. Wasn't a big fan of most of the first half, or the very last track 'Await Rescission'. Everything else wasn't just bearable though, it was downright fantastic.

Gorguts started off kinda weak, but it was only for the first few minutes of the first song, which after that became pretty ****in sweet. Good songs on this album were scattered, not grouped like Vermis. 'An Ocean of Wisdom' was ****ing amazing, as were 'Colored Sands' and 'Reduced to Silence'. 'Battle of Chamdo' was a very pleasant surprise, wasn't expecting it at all! Very nice. Overall, there were some really great tracks on this album but it was mainly that stuff I don't like.

So in a nutshell...Ulcerate wins. But I'm glad I gave Gorguts a try, I always thought they really sucked.

They're just not as good as Ulcerate today haha.

Ulcerate: 3
Gorguts: 0

Holy Ulcerate is running away with this one. As I said I was expecting a shock, and I am getting it.

I like not only that people are liking this album, but it seems to be showing people that Death Metal as a genre is not always just noise. It can have elements that surprise people. Gorguts has their classical side, Ulcerate has their post-Metal Isis inspired side. Taking a genre that is usually known as one-dimensional and cliche to many and showing it can contain beauty within its darkness. I think that is what I really like about this one so far.

Glad to see that the choices have opened a few eyes in the process.

I still have a hard time deciding this one for myself. I went into it thinking Gorguts would be a winner, and I am surprised to see Ulcerate is unstoppable.

I will have to listen to these albums one more time to really cast my vote.

Who gets to choose battles?

Also, I vote for Ulcerate as well. That is my favorite album of their's, and everything about crushes planets. That Gorguts, while great, I didn't find as groundbreaking, but more awesome Gorguts.

Ulcerate: 4
Gorguts: 0
