Whoracle. I think At The Gates is a superior band, but "Slaughter of the Soul" is their worst album. "Slaughter" was muddled; they simplified their song writing, sure, but they didn't bother with hooks. The album sounds indecisive.

When it comes to just mindless, catchy, melodeath, "Whoracle" is the penultimate.

At the Gates - 3
In Flames - 2
Dark Tranquility - 0

I'm not complaining, just laughing. I'd vote, but I actually have never heard any of the albums.

If Jester Race was on here it'd be a blowout (I'm hoping), anyway this is really more of a head to head between In Flames and At the Gates. I find the Gallery to have good intentions but DT didn't really execute as well as they have on other albums. I think it was only their second full length and I don't think Stanne had really refined his vocal technique or found his niche at that time. So between the final two, I give the edge to In Flames because of their use of acoustics and subtle effects on Whoracle.

In Flames - 3
At The Gates - 3
Dark Tranquility - 0

Well I actually like Dark Tranquility's new stuff much better than their old, so the Gallery falls somewhere near the middle to bottom of their discography to me. I think Whoracle sounds much more refined than the other two albums. At The Gates and Dark Tranquility sounded like they were still trying to find their footing at that point. I also like the production, effects, and acoustics of Whoracle better than the other two.

In Flames - 4
At The Gates - 3
Dark Tranquility - 0

Yeah, this sums up my feelings as well.

In Flames - 5
At The Gates - 3
Dark Tranquility - 0

Had the choice of ATG been "The Red in the Sky Is Ours", contest would end in no time, but not "Slaughter of the Soul".

Honestly, I can't see an elitist choosing In Flames over At the Gates.
