And it's: Holy Diver - 2 British Steel - 3 |
Holy Diver. British steel's good, but Dio's voice propels HD to a completley different level.
|
Judas Priest just by a cunt hair over Ronnie James.
|
Holy Diver - 3
British Steel - 5 It's been a good couple of years since I've listened to either of these albums, and I just couldn't get into Dio, he has the voice of a god no doubt but it just becomes too much sometimes. Priest for sure, pure kick your face metal. |
As much as I enjoy Holy Diver, both CD's which I own by the way, I have to give it to British Steel. It's a brilliant album with such classics like Metal Gods (drool), United and Living After Midnight. Absolutely classic in the realm of metal, even their lyrics scream it. Not to mention amazing guitar solos, that's what I love most about Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. I miss that about today's music.
Holy Diver is still fantastic, I love Rainbow in The Night and Gypsy. Holy Diver - 3 British Steel - 6 |
Well, I think we can call this a victory for Judas Priest..
So moving on to the next 2: I think I know where this one is going already, but here it goes anyway... http://www.progarchives.com/progress...6231182008.jpg vs. http://masterplan.borec.cz/images/ma...slave_full.jpg |

They're clearly the more popular band overall and Powerslave is probably my favorite album of theirs but I'm going with Queensryche. Dude could sing in something like 8 octaves and my mid-80s walkman definitely saw a lot more action from Operation: Mindcrime. It was my adolescent generation's Tommy, er something like that. The first concept album that made sense to me. Queensrÿche: 1 Iron Maiden: 0 |
Wait, I thought it was supposed to be the winner of the first battle that went on to face Queensryche?

Queensryche:2 Iron Maiden:0 Sorry Maiden. |
I have listened to Powerslave hundreds of times, if it was 7th Son up there I'd go Maiden. it was my first time ever listening to Queensrÿche, but I was impressed. Great riffs, the only way I can describe the guys voice is lightning, and top notch.
Queensrÿche - 3 Iron Maiden - 0 |
Yeah, forgive my n00b mistake, haha.
I think that though would be best, do like a semi-final. I always thought the best way this thread could be done is bracket. Have a high number of albums, and do it for longer. Always seens to go by too quickly. |
Powerslave, for sure! But Queensryche are amazing, I've been a fan for years.
So: Operation Mindcrime: 0 Powerslave: 1 |

I must say I'm not too fond of the epic battles.... if you don't like the genre or theme they're riffing on, it's pretty tedious.
|
I never thought I'd say this, but I agree with hip hop bunny hop.
|
Well, the beauty is you only have to listen to the album once through out it all. You are not forced to listen to each album more than once.
My idea is more based on how at times an album can be poorly paired and stand no chance, so if the losers for example could be a better battle, pit them. Your opinions on each album wont change, but it is kinda fun to see how 2 albums you may not like can go against each other, and see what you find better or worse. Just an idea I am thinking of to keep it going for a tad bit longer. |

As for this battle, it's almost an impossible choice really as these two albums are very special. In fact I found the choice easier between the Dio and Judas Priest albums easier than this one! Operation Mindcrime is easily the most accomplished thing Queensryche ever did and one of the most polished metal albums ever recorded, it really has everything that an epic album should have and sounds like Iron Maiden in almost every aspect. Powerslave though is something very special and ranks with Piece of Mind as their very best, probably just clips Piece of Mind. If it was Iron Maiden v Queensryche Iron Maiden would win hands down, but as this is album versus album then it's much harder. Had Operation Mindcrime come up against another Iron Maiden album it probably would've won, but it didn't so Powerslave wins.
Operation Mindcrime- 3 Powerslave- 2 |
I'm gonna need a little time on this one. I've never actually listened to Operation: Mindcrime before, and it would be unfair to compare an album that I'd only listened to once, with an album I've listened to countless times in the last decade. So, I'm gonna have to give it a few spins.

Alright. As much as Queensryche's dark, pop metal is a revelation that will make me go out and buy it at the next opportunity I gotta go with Maiden on this one. If it weren't Powerslave, then things would probably be different, but Powerslave is just the perfect heavy metal album. It's everything that I think of when I think of traditional metal. It's music is just the right combo of infectious pop hooks, galloping straight up headbanging riffs, and epic atmosphere. The lyrics capture the shtick of metal without sounding cliched and goofy. Not to mention the album cover is not just the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it beats sliced bread hands down. And not being the biggest prog fan, I'm not so hot on 10 min+ songs, but "The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner" is quite possibly the only one that holds my attention for the entire thirteen minutes of it's perfect existence. If god made a heavy metal album, it would still suck in comparison to Powerslave.
Operation: Mindcrime - 3 Powerslave - 3 |
7th Son of a 7th Son was blessed by the metal demons specifically...
|
Operation: Mindcrime - 3
Powerslave - 4 I don't like, at all, how the vocals overpowered the music for Queensryche. On top of that, I don't like how the vocalist sounds. Worst, I don't care that the vocalist is trying to get across some story. Powerslave isn't perfect, but it is fun. |

I've never gotten into Operation: Mindcrime, despite a few attempts. It's always cool for 3-4 songs, then it all gets too similar and blends together for me. Powerslave, on the other hand, is one of my favourite albums of all time, and one of Maiden's 3 best. So:
Operation: Mindcrime - 3 Powerslave - 5 |
Maiden above all man. Saxon's good but personally I think Maiden is where it's at.

I had both of these albums when they first came out. Tate has always been a solid vocalist, and DeGarmo has some brilliant work, but Powerslave was put in the cassette deck and didn't come out until the tape broke. Probably from me rewinding/fastforwarding until I got ROTAM down.
Operation: Mindcrime - 3 Powerslave - 6 |
