Well usually someone has voted by now. How about this, I'm assuming it has something to do with Christmas, so how about I remove the new battle, and just leave the old one up till after Christmas. I imagine having a new battle up during Christmas would be pointless anyway.

That sounds like a great idea!

@Batlord- Even before the op, my dick was still bigger than yours.

I love that album by Sleep but need to listen to that album by Solace 13 as it has a good rep. Sadly I don`t have too much time to listen to albums whilst on holidays. I`m sun-bathing in a lovely 25 degrees!

Alright, I finally had a chance to listen to the Solace album (I've owned the Sleep album for a couple years) and my vote's going that way. Sleep's Holy Mountain is a decent album—though not nearly as good as Dopesmoker—but I really felt like 13 was something special. With the exception of "Common Cause", which sounds like some cock rock band snuck into the studio, I'm really digging this album. Not quite as heavy as other stoner stuff, but still quite good.

Sleep - 1
Solace - 1

Whoa, looks like I almost didn't get to vote on my own battle due to an ill-timed vacation. Seeing as I'm a big fan of stoner and doom metal, I've been spinning these albums a lot over the past couple weeks. They're right up my alley, but in slightly different ways. 13 is a great stoner rock riff-a-thon that often bears a striking resemblance to Sabbath (so striking that my friends thought we were listening to Sabbath the first time I played them "Loving Sickness") and mixes in just the right amount of doom to keep the sound fresh and to keep my head banging. Holy Mountain is heavier by a long shot and also sounds verrrrry Sabbath-influenced, cultivating the classic doom metal sound into one of its best iterations I've yet heard. That being said, Holy Mountain seems a bit disjointed, with riffy and more accessible songs on the first half and more atmospheric, thick songs on the second half. Overall, I tend to zone out towards the end of Holy Mountain and I just think Solace does a better job of playing consistently and consistently awesome.

Solace - 2
Sleep - 1

Also Janzsoon, you're spot on about Common Cause. Apparently Solace had an extra guitarist (Scott Weinrich of Saint Vitus and Obsessed) for parts of the album who also contributed that song.

Also, I thought it was interesting that Solace named the album 13 because they felt it was shrouded in bad luck-- they cycled through 4 different drummers, experienced internal strife, and saw the master tapes destroyed before their completion

Alright, unless there are any more objections (JANSZOON!), I'll put the next battle up tomorrow.

I'm gonna have to still hand it to Sleep, although I can see Solace growing on me. It's not bad at all. I've always held Sleep's Holy Mountain in a rather high regard anyway.

Solace - 2
Sleep - 2
